Cheap and lazy movie. Overuses flashbacks to tell its story and the the chemistry is completely missing between the lead actors. Pattinson is also laughable in this role. The drama itself is really not the big of a deal either, and the fact that the movie makes such a fuss about it is both ridiculous and kind of condescending.
Tough show to review. I didn't like it much at first, it felt a bit too family oriented and honestly not funny enough. But when it's funny, it really is funny. Which kept me coming back. Sadly just as I'm getting interested for real, the show gets cancelled! 😧 A shame.
I liked the atmosphere in this and the very 80/90s style. The lore in it is very crazy and I do kinda like it too. The movie itself is pretty average though, sadly.
It tries to be a deep and suspenseful mumblecore movie, but it doesn't have the quality needed for it.
For such a movie to work, the script need to be basically perfect (which this is absolutely not) and the acting needs to be extremely good too. And to be honest, for Rosamund Pike standards, the acting is pretty good. Actually it's basically the best part of the movie. But it's not nearly enough of the quality needed.
The writing is the worst part and is what basically ruins the movie. If you look at any other mumblecore movie you will notice that the story is very focused. It is needed to really get you invested. But since this is more of a Hollywood flick, the story tries to reel in as much people as possible and hence it's a bit of all over the place.
So the movie ends up being disappointing, but I will say that it managed to be pretty suspenseful at times, hence the okay score.
Sadly, just a random monster movie at the end of the day. The twist is also very telegraphed so I'm not sure how someone can get surprised by that. I like the ship itself though and some of the stylistic choices but that's about it.
