Grammy®-winning engineer, mixer, and supervising music editor Mark Willsher works internationally across film scoring, classical recording, and immersive audio. His credits span major film and classical projects, including The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, Netflix's Ultraman Rising, the San Francisco Symphony, St. Lawrence String Quartet, and Deutsche Grammophon's release of Kaija Saariaho's Adriana Mater, which earned him a Grammy® Award for Best Opera Recording (engineer/mixer).
In addition to his production and post-production work, Willsher has been active in audio education, lecturing at institutions such as MIT, The Peabody Institute, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the Royal Academy of Music. He served for seventeen years as guest audio faculty at the Banff Centre for the Arts and joined the Verbier Festival as guest faculty in 2023. He is also part of the ECHO Project, an international research initiative exploring immersive orchestral recording techniques.
With a background in music performance and a deep understanding of the technical and narrative aspects of scoring, Willsher focuses on creating emotionally engaging recordings that remain transparent to the listener. He works from a calibrated immersive mixing environment supporting Dolby Atmos and other spatial formats, using a hybrid analogue/digital workflow.
