The Union Ratings & Reviews
- Manuel FrangisApril 8, 2025I just watched The Union, and I give it 4 out of 5 stars. I was honestly not sure what to expect going into this one, but it ended up being a fun, fast paced action movie that had a good mix of humor, big stunts, and a story that kept me entertained the whole way through. It is not trying to be deep or overly serious, and I think that actually works in its favor. It knows what kind of movie it wants to be and sticks with it. Mark Wahlberg plays a regular guy who gets pulled into something way bigger than him. He is not a secret agent, he is not trained for this stuff, and that makes things even more chaotic and fun to watch. He brings that classic Wahlberg charm with just the right amount of confusion and confidence. You get the sense that he is just trying to survive most of the time, and it makes the action scenes feel a little more grounded and believable. Halle Berry is great as always. She brings a cool and calm presence to the screen, but she also gets in on the action and really holds her own. Her character has that smart and capable vibe, and she pairs well with Wahlberg’s more frantic energy. Their chemistry is solid, and their back and forth gives the movie a nice rhythm. You can tell they are having fun, and that carries into the scenes. The action scenes are a big part of the fun. There are chases, shootouts, hand to hand fights, and some wild moments that definitely go a little over the top, but not in a bad way. It leans into the action comedy style, with a few stunts that made me laugh just because of how unexpected they were. It is not trying to be realistic. It is trying to be exciting, and it totally succeeds at that. The movie also throws in some spy thriller elements, but it does not get too complicated. There is a mission, some twists, and a few shady characters, but it never slows down to explain too much. That actually works here. It keeps the pace moving, and you are never stuck in a long scene of exposition. Things just happen, and you go with it. It makes for an easy and enjoyable watch. Visually, the movie looks great. There are a few different locations, and the cinematography is clean and sharp. The fight choreography is well done, and the camera stays on the action without shaking all over the place. That makes a big difference. You can actually see what is going on, and that helps make the scenes more fun to watch. The humor is light and sprinkled throughout. It never tries to turn into a full on comedy, but there are enough jokes and funny reactions to keep things from getting too serious. The tone stays fun, and that keeps the movie from dragging during the slower parts. I give The Union 4 out of 5 stars because it is a well made, entertaining action movie with good leads and a story that moves fast. It does not break any new ground, but it does everything it needs to do to keep you locked in and enjoying the ride. Overall The Union is a solid action flick that knows how to keep things fun, explosive, and just a little bit ridiculous. I had a great time watching it, and I would not mind seeing more from these characters.
