- James Saenz5d agothe commentary on racial and social injustices is absolutely muddied (judy acts as a surrogate for both the receiver and deliverer of racial macro/microaggressions) and the portrayal of cops has mixed results, even more so in today’s climate (judy reaching for her fox spray out of fear of an “aggressive” minority is uncomfortably racially charged, even if it’s portrayed as a character fault in judy). even though the lesson of the film is to let go of prejudices and to embrace differences, basing zootopia off of our lived, real world implies systemic issues with a police force, and thus it’s always acab and that sadly includes bunny cops like judy. that being said, when the jokes land they really land (like the entire godfather bit) and the palpable sexual tension between judy and nick has fueled furry content for nigh on a decade, so this movie still rules.

- NirupamJune 19, 2025“My mommy says she wishes you were dead.” Not only Zootopia is really funny but it’s also is such a good mystery movie. I’m a sucker for an investigative thrillers, and the main mystery here is done so well. With each clue, the story gets more compelling, it’s great stuff. I used to read a lot of mystery books (The Famous Five, Secret Seven, etc.) when I was younger and if Zootopia had come out back then, when I was like six or seven, I just know I would’ve had it on repeat. But teen me appreciated this film too mostly because of how much I connected with Judy. Now rewatching this after a long time and I appreciate it even more. The mystery, the humor, the characters, the themes, all of it. Can’t wait for Zootopia 2. P.S. if you’re the tiger on the subway… rawr.
