Where to Watch Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
- Lon SeidmanOctober 9, 2024This is by far my favorite Star Wars sequel trilogy film. It is inventive, takes risks, and advances the story in unpredictable ways. I also like the theme that force powers reside in everyone - not just the elites we had in the prior films. Is it perfect? Not by any means. I would have liked for Luke to have been less of a Hermit than how he was initially portrayed. The side quest with Finn also felt like it was there just to give his character and Rose something to do. This film would have been better if Johnson was given both this film and the final one IMHO.
- ZokkiieFebruary 28, 2026Abrams set up such a good enough start with all the mystery, tension, and stakes, and you could feel the story ready to explode. Then Rian comes in, and… yeah, he really drops the ball. I love him for Knives Out, but this? This was a failure on an epic scale. The pacing is all over the place, jokes land weirdly, and half the setups from the last film just get ignored or thrown away. Some visuals are stunning, and there are flashes of clever ideas here and there, but they can’t save the mess of tone and storytelling. It feels like a promising saga got derailed, and the emotional beats never land the way they should. Disappointing doesn’t even cover it.
- PhineasJuly 11, 2025Oh The Last Jedi, where do I begin? Are you a little overhated? Perhaps a little. Do you have some of the best cinematography in the whole franchise? Absolutely. Are there really effective moments? Yes. Did Rian Johnson screw up the sequels with this movie? Absolutely. Did you completely butcher Luke Skywalker? Absolutely.
- Scott beardFebruary 8, 2026The Last Jedi committed the ultimate sin: it executed Luke Skywalker not merely his body, but his very essence. The farm boy who faced the Emperor without flinching, who redeemed Vader through unshakeable hope and compassion, the eternal emblem of perseverance… reduced to a bitter, milk slurping recluse who contemplates murdering his own nephew in his sleep over one dark impulse. One fleeting shadow, and suddenly the entire Jedi legacy must vanish? Utter nonsense. This isn’t character development or gritty realism it’s deliberate sabotage wrapped in smug self-importance. Luke Skywalker would never cower on a desolate rock, idly watching the galaxy burn. He’d be in the fray, blade ignited, because hope was his weapon. Rian Johnson essentially declared our childhood icon a hollow fraud all along surprise, audience. Then he dispatches him via Force projection fatigue, with zero real peril established. The film practically shouts, “This is the finale nothing more to see here,” despite Episode IX looming on the horizon. It felt engineered to obliterate any future for the saga. Plot? What plot? A meandering two and a half hour exercise in narrative chaos, ignoring basic logic and continuity. The Resistance fleet “runs out of fuel”… in zero gravity? Drifting helplessly while the First Order inexplicably fails to close the gap? Finn and Rose’s casino escapade? A pointless detour that accomplishes nothing beyond lecturing us that war profiteers are immoral how revolutionary. Holdo conceals her hyperspace masterstroke for no defensible reason except to engineer artificial tension and diminish Poe, who went from daring pilot in The Force Awakens to petulant side character spouting about “mansplaining.” And the relentless “subverting expectations”? Rey’s parentage tease ends with “they were nobodies get over it,” rendering the mystery meaningless. Luke casually discarding the lightsaber? A deliberate middle finger to fans. Yoda materializing solely to torch sacred texts and dispense cryptic platitudes? How profoundly unhelpful, Master. This film doesn’t honor the legacy it desecrates it while insisting the contempt is enlightenment. It transformed lifelong devotion into bitter disillusionment. The originals once reignited that spark of wonder; now, thoughts of Star Wars summon only the sour aftertaste of that green milk scene and a profound sense of betrayal. Rian, if you’re somehow tuned in: congratulations on the emotional wreckage. You didn’t deconstruct the myth you simply demolished it and labeled the rubble profound art. WTAF
- PapaHamzehApril 2, 2025Once again, im going to go against the grain on a review. Ill be upfront and honest, though. This movie wasn't good. But I liked it better than its predecessor as a Star Wars story. Lets get the nitty gritty out of the way, as I think these complaints are valid despite being entangled in misogyny and the beginnings of the anti-DEI movement. What happened to Leia was weird and shouldn't have happened. The entire plot on the casino world was useless, and though it set up an inspiring moment at the end of the movie, the subsequent film/filmmakers not wanting to deal with it left it to be an open-ended and meaningless scene. Really terrible characters brought into this one, and again this is a valid criticism despite its entanglement with incels. Now to the good. Not enough is discussed about Luke and his views on the Force. It really was the first time we were getting interesting discussions on philosophy about the Force, and it was interesting to see that this could have been a catalyst for new story telling in the franchise. But of course, many people hated that philosophy and they hated Luke. But I think this was a redeeming quality for the movie that brought back up to par with The Force Awakens. I also think that this was the last time the movies were ever going to be interesting and discussing the greyer aspects of the Force, or rather, its purpose as Entropic Nature. Ship going lightspeed as a weapon: hated by sci fi nerds, but I dont care. Rule of cool. It can stay. Very beautiful film, too!
