What a well acted and crafted film. The movie has such a heavy weight that it's three main actors playing our lead all give terrific performances. I was swept away with the cinematography and how the camera just floated around. It felt as if I was living in the moment with the main character. I never knew where this film would go and all the conversations that were had felt so real. For such an urban movie it was really cool the score was performed by an orchestra. I wish we could spend more time with our character at the end. Felt like a weight was lifted off his shoulders and it just ended. i'm negative I had is that supporting characters were all great and interesting but when the stories switched to the later years a lot of those characters were lost in the mix. This was a journey and I was glad I got to watch it.

Through each of their performances, and the rich narrative, Jenkins delivers an authentic, necessary statement of black male self-love.

Moonlight may be a quiet, understated gem. But you can expect the buzz surrounding it to become deafening.

An intimate and haunting drama.
Baltimore Magazine

Barry Jenkins' Moonlight is a deeply personal, deeply expressive film, unlike anything I've ever seen before.
Boston Globe
Ty Burr
In its quietly radical grace, it's a cultural watershed - a work that dismantles all the ways our media view young black men and puts in their place a series of intimate truths.
Detroit News
Adam Graham
"Moonlight" is a film of rare grace - a tender, compassionate, restrained look at a life lived in the shadows.
San Diego Reader
Scott Marks
Bullying, poverty, closeted sexuality, drug abuse, and racial strife combine to form an overworked agenda of cultural woes that's more concerned with rubber-stamping issues than telling an original story.

Is a portrait of life written with cut-to-the-bone honesty. That's what makes Moonlight so arresting
New York Times
A.O. Scott
Moonlight is both a disarmingly, at times almost unbearably personal film and an urgent social document, a hard look at American reality and a poem written in light, music and vivid human faces.
Austin Chronicle

Truly, madly, deeply: There's magic in this Moonlight.

A deeply personal and visually mesmerizing drama that just might be the year's best movie.
Us Weekly

The indie drama touches on themes of race, sexuality and isolation in ways that are rarely depicted in cinema.

[Moonlight recalls] works from filmmakers as varied as Richard Linklater, François Truffaut, Fernando Meirelles, Cheryl Dunye and Spike Lee. But, in the end, the director makes this motion picture its own uniquely satisfying enterprise.
National Newspaper Publishers Association
Dwight Brown
[Moonlight's] uncanny blend of strong visuals, social issues, sexuality themes and urban life is a potent mix.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Calvin Wilson
Basking in this "Moonlight" is one of the cinematic joys of the year.
Chicago Reader
Andrea Thompson
Jenkins portrays a world so often fetishized and reduced to its most violent outcomes from the inside, with tenderness and Wong Kar-wai's influence on his cinematic sleeve.
Seattle Times
Moira MacDonald
It's less a story than a collection of moments, which leaves its viewer feeling moved and changed, as if you've spent time in someone else's dreams and woke up understanding who they are.
