Immortals battling through centuries, epic duels, Queen blasting in the background, it’s stylish, weird and absolutely dripping with 80s attitude. And yes, I saw it on pay TV back in the day, which somehow makes it even better. Christopher Lambert plays Connor MacLeod with that unique “I learned English phonetically” charm, giving every line a slightly off beat delivery that somehow works for an immortal Scotsman who sounds vaguely French. Meanwhile, Sean Connery strolls in as a Spanish Egyptian immortal, because casting in the 80s was a lawless wasteland and steals every scene without even trying. The movie’s pacing is chaotic in the best way. One minute you’re in the Scottish Highlands, the next you’re in gritty 80s New York watching immortals slice each other up in parking garages. It’s stylish, moody and occasionally makes no sense whatsoever, but you’re too entertained to care. Clancy Brown’s Kurgan is the real deal. He’s loud, unhinged and looks like he escaped from a metal album cover. Every time he shows up, the movie gets ten times more fun and ten times more insane. What really sells Highlander is the vibe. The sword fights, the flashbacks, the neon soaked city shots, the Queen soundtrack blasting like the movie is trying to win a music video award, it all comes together into something unforgettable. Not perfect, not polished, but absolutely iconic. It’s a cult classic for a reason. Ambitious, messy, stylish and completely committed to its own mythology. And unlike some movies from that era, this one actually deserved a sequel… which makes it even funnier that the sequel we got was Highlander II: The Quickening, a cinematic crime against humanity. Still, the original stands strong. There can be only one and honestly, this is the one worth remembering.
- Recordedsnake20 grudnia 2025Highlander is a cult classic that blends fantasy, action, and myth into a truly memorable film. Its story of immortals battling across centuries is both epic and surprisingly emotional, with strong performances from Christopher Lambert and a scene stealing Sean Connery. Paired with Queen’s iconic soundtrack, it’s bold, atmospheric, and unforgettable, because... "There can be only one!"
- Chris C13 marca 2026My memory of this movie was significantly better than it ended up being on a re-watch. For people who have supposedly lived centuries or millennia, they're all truly terrible swordsmen. Lambert has all the charisma of a cardboard box and most of the others are no more than two-dimensional caricatures of actual characters. Clancy Brown plays The Kurgan with gleeful outrageousness, but that's not enough to carry the movie. While the premise itself is great (if not full of logical holes, but we can ignore those for a movie) and the music is excellent—with Queen lending some real hits to it—that's not sufficient to rescue a movie that just really is not executed (pardon the pun) very well.
