Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Ratings & Reviews
- 匚卂尺ㄥJanuary 28, 2025,⚯, A great sequel! If you liked the first one then you're going to love this! There's a darker atmosphere this time around and more characters are introduced including Gilderoy Lockhart (hilariously played by Kenneth Branagh), Draco Malfoy's father, Lucius (a great performance by Jason Isaacs, exactly how I imagined the character from the books!), Ron's father, Arthur, and the mysterious Dobby the house elf (fortunately he isn't anywhere near as annoying as other CG characters in other movies, but I won't name any names... *cough*JarJarBinks*cough*) The movie sticks closely to the novel, but as in the last movie we miss some of those scenes where we start to learn a little more about the characters, especially the hate-hate relationship between Harry and Professor Snape (who was seriously underused in this movie!) All in all it's definitely worth checking out, the running time of 160 minutes may seem a little long but it doesn't seem that long when you're watching it. By the way, whatever you do DO NOT leave until the credits have ended, otherwise you'll miss a little extra treat...

- Manuel FrangisApril 6, 2025I just watched Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie takes everything that worked in the first one and builds on it in all the right ways. It is darker, more intense, and even more magical. The mystery is stronger, the characters are growing, and Hogwarts feels even more alive. It is exactly what a second movie in a series should be. It expands the world while keeping everything that makes it special. This time around, the story dives deeper into the secrets hiding within Hogwarts. Weird things start happening around the school, and students are getting attacked by something unknown. Harry, Ron, and Hermione are once again in the middle of it, trying to figure out what is going on. The tension builds more than it did in the first movie, and you can really feel the danger this time. It still has the fun and magic, but there is a mystery running through the whole movie that keeps you guessing. The trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson continue to grow into their roles. You can see how their characters are changing and becoming more confident, but they still feel like kids trying to handle way more than they should. Their friendship is strong, and their chemistry makes every scene better. Whether they are investigating a clue or arguing in class, you can tell they really care about each other. The returning cast is as strong as ever. Richard Harris brings the same wise calm to Dumbledore, and Maggie Smith continues to shine as McGonagall. Alan Rickman still steals scenes as Snape, and Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid is just as warm and loyal as before. But the new characters in this one also stand out. Kenneth Branagh plays Gilderoy Lockhart, and he is hilarious. He is full of confidence and stories that clearly are not true, and watching him try to handle real danger is one of the funniest parts of the movie. Jason Isaacs also appears and immediately makes an impression as someone who clearly brings trouble. The effects take a big leap forward here. The magic looks more polished, the creatures are more detailed, and there are a few scenes that still hold up really well. Hogwarts feels bigger this time. You get to see new parts of the castle and discover just how many secrets it really holds. The atmosphere is more mysterious, and the darker tone adds a nice layer of suspense. The pacing is great too. It balances the fun school moments with the mystery, the danger, and the magical world building. The Quidditch scene is more intense than before, and there are some really creative magical elements that keep things exciting. The music by John Williams is once again fantastic. That theme music still gives me chills, and the new pieces fit the darker tone perfectly. I give Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 5 out of 5 stars because it is a fantastic follow up that pushes the story and characters forward in exciting ways. It is fun, mysterious, a little creepy, and completely packed with magical moments that still hit hard. Overall Chamber of Secrets is a magical and suspenseful adventure that proves this series was just getting started. It is bigger, bolder, and one of my favorites to rewatch.
