The main character Varvara Nekrasova lives in Moscow in an apartment bought by her parents (“ancestors” are engaged in the oil business in Surgut and are able to purchase real estate in the capital). Varya manages the special projects department at the World of Happy Children company, which manufactures toys. She meets a married man, Stas, but dreams of a real family and really wants to have children. Stas Martynov is Deputy General Director in the same company. For a year now, Stas has promised to talk to his wife "in a month", and Varya is waiting. Suddenly, Varya's brother, Dmitry Nekrasov, returns from the army and makes his own adjustments to Varya's daily life and her relationship with Stas.
