The orphans Peter and Eva flee from the Second World War. They want to wait for the war to end in a cave in the mountains, in the "Secret Ground". The path is too difficult for grandfather: he dies. But beforehand he recorded the path for the children. They find the cave and settle in it, but surviving the winter is going to be tough.
