Space: 1999 Ratings & Reviews
- flavo43December 6, 2025Space: 1999 (1975–77) was one of the most ambitious sci-fi series of its era, built around the striking premise of Moonbase Alpha hurtling through space after a cataclysmic explosion. The show impressed with its incredible model work, practical effects, and a strong cast led by Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, giving it a cinematic quality rare for television at the time. Some episodes delivered compelling stories and intriguing explorations of survival and human resilience, but the series often slipped into a formula of “alien or disaster of the week,” which diluted its narrative strength. While not always realistic, it did attempt to ground certain aspects in reason, reflecting the era’s fascination with science and futurism. Ultimately, the show captured the eccentric spirit of the 1970s but struggled to sustain momentum. Still, Space: 1999 remains a cult classic, remembered for its ambition and visual achievements.
- BrandonCFAugust 1, 2025Why I waited until 2025 to watch this show I'll never know. A great transition from Star Trek into the likes of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and Battle Star Galactica. The 1st season is definitley better than the 2nd, but in it's entirety the show is great. If you like 70's sci-fi, you'll like this.
