In 2071, roughly fifty years after an accident with a hyperspace gateway made the Earth almost uninhabitable, humanity has colonized most of the rocky planets and moons of the Solar System. Amid a rising crime rate, the Inter Solar System Police (ISSP) set up a legalized contract system, in which registered bounty hunters, also referred to as "Cowboys", chase criminals and bring them in alive in return for a reward.

Cowboy Bebop Ratings & Reviews
- Matthew Syvinski6d agoCowboy Bebop is such a great anime to watch and I recommend it to anyone!!! I want to say this but great story and sad ending but you cant beat that !! SEE YOU SPACE COWBOY ...
- Cypress ZimmerDecember 17, 2025Cowboy Bebop will forever hold a special place in my heart as one of the greatest shows of all time. That being said, I find this show a bit hard to recommend to some people because of it's lack of an obvious narrative. If you are going to watch this show I suggest that you go into it knowing that the exact plotline of individual episodes is merealy a device to further the real narrative of this show. The real joy of cowboy bebop and the reason why it is so highly regarded is how characters change over the course of their journey as a part of the bebop crew and how their adventures in each episode shape their worldview. Without getting into spoiler territory, the way that this show explores existentialism, the importance of one's past, and how to find a reason to live in such a chaoctic, depressing, lonely and violent world through the backdrop of intergalactic bounty hunting is masterful and wonderful and I think this is one of those pieces of media that can be really impactful and healing.
- Demonxl101May 23, 2025it's cowboy bebop. If you don't like it, you're wrong.
- schrodingerJune 27, 2025I've watched a lot of anime since I started as a child in the early 80's. I can safely say that for me personally, this is easily one of the great masterpieces of all time. Everything from the animation to the world building to the music to the characters, pacing, and storyboarding are absolute masterclass. Not an ounce of wasted space here. If "show, don't tell" was distilled down and animated, this is what it would look like.
- flavo43December 6, 2025Cowboy Bebop (1998) remains one of the most iconic anime series ever created, blending style, substance, and emotion into a seamless whole. The soundtrack, composed by Yoko Kanno, is unforgettable—its jazz, blues, and eclectic rhythms elevate every scene and are so good they stand alone as music you’d listen to anywhere, even driving. The animation flows beautifully, with fluid transitions and dynamic action that still impress decades later. World-building is another triumph: set in a post–Earth accident universe, the series crafts a rich backdrop of interplanetary travel, bounty hunting, and existential longing. Each episode touches on different aspects of this universe, offering both standalone adventures and deeper arcs. While fans might wish it continued, the conclusion is both satisfying and bittersweet, leaving a lasting emotional impact. With its mix of humor, melancholy, and sheer coolness, Cowboy Bebop is an amazing anime that defined a generation.
- RichardOctober 18, 2025Across all the episodes, Cowboy Bebop doesn’t just tell a story, it builds a mood, a myth and a melancholy masterpiece. It’s a space western, a noir, a jazz album and a meditation on loneliness, all wrapped in slick animation and unforgettable music. Every episode feels like a short film: some are playful, others devastating, but all are steeped in style and soul. Spike Spiegel drifts through the cosmos with a past he can’t outrun, Jet anchors the crew with grizzled wisdom, Faye hides vulnerability behind bravado, Ed brings chaos and genius and Ein… well, Ein’s a good boy. Together, they form a found family that never quite sticks, but leaves a mark. Yoko Kanno’s score is legendary, the art direction timeless and the emotional payoff in episodes like “Ballad of Fallen Angels,” “Speak Like a Child,” and “The Real Folk Blues” is pure cinematic poetry. It’s not just anime, it’s a genre defying elegy for dreamers and drifters.
- RazorbitzNovember 29, 2025I always watch the dub; its one of the few series where I prefer it. Bebop is Bebop--its not my favorite, but its been with me for decades at this point and feels just as fresh watching today as it did when I first saw it. That damn soundtrack is on regular rotation, wouldn't have it any other way. Nothing else like it--will probably be talked about for generations to come but for my two worthless cents it can be a bit uneven. Its the peak of the episodic formula, but I never much liked the episodic formula. Gotta give respects to the classics.
- CrazyBastrdAugust 2, 2025A killer '90s classic with a slapping soundtrack. Fantastic fusion of sci-fi and Western vibes. This tends to be the anime. I recommend to people who don't watch anime - it has great universal appeal in the stories it tells.
- Shane LynchJuly 27, 2025This is what got me hooked on Anime, the story telling, animation, music, and character design it’s all just so good! I keep coming back to watch it and the movie. It;s one of those shows that is short in comparison to some of the more popular anime but to me you should be able to tell a good story in one season and Bebop does it so well!
- Christopher ShellkoJuly 19, 2025This was the anime that was recomended to anyone curiously asking for a recomendation for a first Japanese animation to try out back in the 90s and lets be honest, its still recomended to this day. It borrows heavily from existing genres and blends them effortlessly while having very strong characterization and interesting setting to the show. Addmitedly the story is weak but its not really the point in the first place. Its not perfect but if you haven't seen it yet then go watch it now.
- roma latyshenkoJune 17, 2025we didn't know how good we had it
- NonPlayableContentJune 9, 2025It's the anime to show non anime fans, its short and full of story.
- CubaneJune 4, 2025One of the most celebrated anime series of all time, and for good reason. The hand-drawn style alone makes it worth watching.
- thev0yagerApril 19, 2025Alright first time finishing this show and here are my thoughts. The animation and score really carry this to be as good as it is. The thing I can't really get over is just how ingrained sexism is in this show. It drives a lot of the characters motives and it is seen in like every single woman in this show its kinda fucked up. I get that this show was of its time but god damn did the politics and philosophies of this show not age well.
- NicolasOctober 8, 2024A nice space western filled with jazz and action
