In 2071, roughly fifty years after an accident with a hyperspace gateway made the Earth almost uninhabitable, humanity has colonized most of the rocky planets and moons of the Solar System. Amid a rising crime rate, the Inter Solar System Police (ISSP) set up a legalized contract system, in which registered bounty hunters, also referred to as "Cowboys", chase criminals and bring them in alive in return for a reward.

- schrodingerJune 27, 2025I've watched a lot of anime since I started as a child in the early 80's. I can safely say that for me personally, this is easily one of the great masterpieces of all time. Everything from the animation to the world building to the music to the characters, pacing, and storyboarding are absolute masterclass. Not an ounce of wasted space here. If "show, don't tell" was distilled down and animated, this is what it would look like.

The thing I can't really get over is just how ingrained sexism is in this show. It drives a lot of the characters motives and it is seen in like every single woman in this show its kinda fucked up. I get that this show was of its time but god damn did the politics and philosophies of this show not age well.
