Tomorrow Never Dies Ratings & Reviews
- Rick Masters2d agoOne of my favourite Bond films, Pierce is excellent, the action scenes are exciting and varied, good villain, there’s some great lines and 007’s car is class in this one. Watched it many times when I was young and still holds up today.
- 匚卂尺ㄥJanuary 28, 2025( -_•)︻デ═一Tomorrow Never Dies is the quintessential Bond film complete with all the right elements and gets the formula perfect. It sadly never quite escaped the huge shadow of Goldeneye, but I consider it actually superior to GE and overall the best of the Brosnan era. (And best modern Bond film overall) 1. Much better pre-title sequence. The most exciting one in the series along with Octopussy. Plus, there are no cringeworthy moments like Brosnan hanging updown in a bathroom stall or the ridiculous freefalling off a cliff. 2. Bond allowed to be Bond and not lectured by seemingly every character. In TND Bond is not called a misogynist dinosaur, or any number of other self-aware critiques that we have to endure throughout Goldeneye. 3. Bond actually uses his gadget laden car. What's up with that blue BMW in Goldeneye that barely even got driven? TND features a full on classic Bond car chase. 4. Better hair-cut. Lookin' sharp 007! The modern supporting cast of Samantha Bond, Judi Dench, Colin Salmon, and Joe Don Baker all look and act their very best in this film. 5. Awesome end credits song. Goldeneye ends with the lamest, most boring song possible. Did we just watch a Bond movie? TND has the great K.d Land "Surrender" that many Bond fans seem to like even better than the official title song.
- Mister ArnMay 24, 2025A decent opening action scene, but a weak villain and plot don't make it a memorable Bond movie.
- Christopher PucknellJune 24, 2025Personally I found Casino Royal a great direction for Bond; taking the character in a more serious direction, a return to the character of the source material. But many felt this Bond reboot lacking a certain something, and that something is trash. This iteration of the franchise has plenty of it, with it's kindergarden plot and comical over the top, hackneyed villian with literal arched eyebrows and unabashed Chinese racism, it's beautiful, embarresing, cheap 90's trash. Bond's terrible corny one liners, gizmos and gadgets absolutely shine in this movie, and both are dated as all hell. (I'm pretty sure I could download an app to control my car on my phone right now, most probably.) The forgettable plot is irremdeemably bad, the set pieces are cartoonish, predictable and have aged woefully. I was particularly fond of the scene where the chinese firework truck exploded, and I'm fairly sure a lot of the industrial set is just spray painted plastic. This is such a collosal let down after the superb and introspective Golden Eye. Whilst it's predecessor questioned the cynical motives of the nation state, and the terrible cost to it's pawn agents who devoted their lives to it's service, this film says "Yeah, but what if everything exploded". Whilst I have seen episodes of Thunderbirds with more dramatic tension and credability, this film made me laugh out loud several times, and at the end of the day, temporarily losing my vision from the blood rushing to my head is the most fun you can have in this terrible year of our lord, two thousand and twenty five AD. And to think people say the 90's were a golden age. Bond always beats the odds.
