Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) is a 70 year old Brooklyn widower and a retired executive from the phone company. His son's family lives out of town. He tries to fill his days of leisure. He spots a flyer advertising internships for senior citizens. It's a fast-paced fashion internet commerce site run by Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway). It's been a hectic 18 months for the married mother of little girl and she is reluctantly forced to use Ben as her assistant. Her husband Matt gave up his job to be the stay-at-home dad. Fiona (Rene Russo) is the company masseuse. Ben befriends everyone until Fiona starts to find him indispensable. Nancy Meyers gets a bad rap as the rom-com has become a passe genre. This is not a rom-com but it is a friend-com. De Niro is a little too perfect as the magical old guy with all the answers and lessons for the young ones. This movie is a bit too neat and clean with the characters. Hathaway is the driven multi-tasking internet executive. The characters may be stock but the actors make them breathe. Some of the side characters have some fun. The big twist (not that surprising) does not really raise the drama although Nancy is trying to say somethings. It all combines to create a nice pairing of these two great actors.

Feel good movie. De Niro and Hathaway make the movie what it is. Some serious themes if you're paying attention. Otherwise an evening movie. Watch once - not a repeat movie unless you're a fan of one of the actors.

I just watched The Intern and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. There is something so deeply comforting about this movie. The Intern feels like a warm reminder that purpose and kindness never fade with age. It is the kind of film that makes you sit back, smile, and remember that wisdom and heart can be just as valuable as ambition and innovation. From the moment Robert De Niro appears as Ben Whittaker, there is a calmness to his presence that pulls you in. He plays the kind of man everyone wishes they could meet in their own workplace, steady, patient, humble, and genuinely good. Watching him interact with Anne Hathaway’s character, Jules Ostin, feels like seeing two completely different worlds learn to understand each other with mutual respect. Ben is not trying to prove anything. He is simply trying to belong again, to find meaning after retirement. And that is where the film quietly hits home. It is not loud or overly dramatic; it is honest. You can feel the heart Nancy Meyers put into this story. She captures the small gestures, like showing up early, listening more than speaking, dressing neatly, or remembering someone’s coffee order, and turns them into lessons about empathy and effort. The movie does not need flashy twists because its message is already powerful. Experience still matters. Anne Hathaway gives one of her most grounded and heartfelt performances as Jules. She portrays the modern businesswoman who is fighting to balance work, family, and self-expectations. You can see the exhaustion in her eyes, but also the determination. Her chemistry with De Niro feels completely natural. They do not compete for attention, they complete each other’s story. Their bond is built on trust, not romance, and that is what makes it so refreshing. It is rare to see a movie celebrate friendship across generations with so much warmth and respect. Visually, the film has that signature Nancy Meyers glow. Everything from the cozy Brooklyn offices to the perfectly lit kitchens feels alive and real. The music adds just the right touch, soft, reflective, and never forced. You feel like you are watching life unfold rather than a scripted film. It is also surprisingly funny at times, especially in the smaller moments between Ben and his younger coworkers. There is a sweetness in seeing how he wins everyone over simply by being consistent and kind. What really stays with me, though, is how the movie makes you think about what success actually means. It is not just about money, titles, or growing a company. It is about people. It is about mentorship, community, and knowing that no matter where you are in life, you can still make a difference. Ben does not change who he is to fit in. Instead, his quiet integrity inspires everyone else to slow down and look at what truly matters. By the end, you are left feeling full of hope. The Intern shows that sometimes the best thing you can do for others is simply to show up with an open heart. It is not a movie filled with action or spectacle. It is filled with soul. And that is what makes it timeless.

Honestly this movie was not what I thought it would be, and I really enjoyed it. More serious tone than I thought going into it blind. Some good heartfelt moments.

A very cute, heart-warming movie. De Niro and Hathaway share great chemistry throughout. The visuals and audio in the film were great too. A really nice watch.

While unremarkable in all of the usual metrics, this film never fails to make me feel better - and that's worth something. I really would love to be able to heap praise upon The Intern, but alas I cannot. The story is fairly nice, all of the characters are fairly nice and the technical execution of the film is fairly nice. There is a pattern here. As you'd expect, De Niro and Hathaway bring the best performances in the film and their on screen chemistry is genueinly heartwarming. As I mentioned before, the main takeaway from The Intern is the fact that it makes you feel good. The bluray was absolutely fine as these kind of films usually are, audio and visuals were exactly as expected.

Anne Hathaway did an excellent job of portraying a new entrepreneur that is struggling to balance everything along with the doubts that are so prevalent in all of us especially those who are successful! If you’re looking for a good wholesome movie to lose yourself in a for a few hours with a story that rings as true as it is uplifting then I think that this is well worth your time.
