This is one of those films that has stayed with me ever since the first time I watched it. It introduced something genuinely fresh to the genre; I had never seen anything like that voracious splinter parasite before. The creepy scenes are genuinely terrifying and make your skin crawl. Overall, it’s really well crafted, and everyone in the cast does a great job. For me it's criminally underrated.

If Carpenter's THE THING is your bag, this film is for you. Shot without CGI, these monsters were fantastic and the production value top notch. First you meet the gas station attendant and then the couple on a trip. It's a little schmaltzy between them in this opening scene, but she's beautiful and he's a nerd, so we forgive. After that, you'll meet the final couple and the game is on. Very well done acting by all, especially Shea and his waif of a girlfriend. The terror is real and filmed in such a way that I jumped many times. This movie is 100% as good as any big budget Hollywood film and worth your time if you enjoy this genre. Recommended.

Splinter is a cult classic with one of the creepiest creature designs in recent memory. Shot in mostly a single location, the tense action and genuine scares will keep you locked in. You know that something like this doesn’t exist in real life but I bet after watching Splinter, you’ll think twice about going near road kill again. A truly fun watch for horror fans who love creature features, this film is a horror gem that belongs in your collection.

New spin on John Carpenter's "The Thing". Not a bad watch, but not movie of the year by any means.
