Spawn Ratings & Reviews
- Richard6d agoFirst saw this one on an import DVD at a friend’s place, and that already gave it a certain “forbidden fruit” vibe. Later picked up my own DVD… only to discover the French version had censored the killing, which somehow made the whole thing feel even more chaotic than intended. I’ve got the comics, so I know how dark and stylish Spawn should be and the movie tries, it really does. But the CGI was just too early in its evolution, wobbling somewhere between ambitious and “oh no, please stop moving.” Still, there’s something charming about how hard it swings for the fences. Good movie at its core, just trapped in the technology of its time.
- Kyle BianchiNovember 9, 2025Peak 90s action, peak 90s CGI, peak Spawn. I love Michael Jai White as Spawn just as much as I loved Keith David voicing him in the cartoon, but John Leguizamo as The Clown is top tier. Overall a solid, fun movie. We really deserve another.
- ርልዪረFebruary 23, 2025A favorite as a kid and still the best superhero I think. His suit/cape and all its powers are the coolest of all heros by far. When he first changes into the spawn and you see the suit was so awesome when I first watched it. Michael jai white is the man and one the best martial artists out there even though there isn't much in this film. Plus John Leguizamo as the clown or "violator" is hilarious. I've seen this movie a bunch of times but I just watched it again and it's still dope as hell. Good story line. CGI and special effects really good for the time it was made. Some people say the devil character "Malebolgia" looks whack but it's more or less how it was in the comics but the whole movie is worth the watch for sure. I'll take Spawn over the Avengers, Batman and any superhero any day.
- OZPROOctober 21, 2025Classic Good v Evil romp with heaps of 90’s level CGI and a great cast make this one of my all time favourites!
- LeustadOctober 18, 2025Only the BEST... btw, the entire budget looks like spent on the cape's cgi lol
- marlon1116October 7, 2025Loved it.
- tokethaninjaAugust 5, 2025Would have benefitted from "less is more" mentality. The CG hell scenes look awful and are noticeably worse quality than the suit or the monster, which are mostly practical. This distracts from a decent story. Leguizamo is campy is hell but unfortunately he ends up being the most iconic part of this movie.
- AngusMcNutzDecember 23, 2024Mostly nostalgic enjoyment for me but, objectively, this movie has all the subtlety and nuance of an ice-cold Four Loko
- jackmeatDecember 22, 2024My quick rating - 5,1/10. After being murdered by corrupt colleagues in a covert government agency, Al Simmons makes a pact with the devil to be resurrected to see his beloved wife Wanda. In exchange for his return to Earth, Simmons agrees to lead Hell's Army in the destruction of mankind. Back then, I was really into the comic. Well, I read it, didn't buy toys or anything but I did rush to the theater to see it. I was VERY disappointed then. This may be the second time I have seen it. From what I thought then I think now I am a bit more subjective in my rating. It still does the story no justice and I really am not sure why Leguizamo had such a flash of popularity there but aside from his nonsense character, Jai White was a solid Spawn and the movie does deliver some mindless action. But with now-dated effects, the movie also doesn't stand the tests of time too well. Maybe with a better story, it might have. Oh well, still part of the collection.
