- TanalienJanuary 9, 2025Only a few filmmakers can release a film to great cultural fanfare on name alone. I arrived at the movie theater thirty minutes before showtime only to discover a long line of 250 people waiting to enter. I asked the folks first in line when they arrived: An hour ago. This was a weekday IMAX showing that would end at midnight. I was happily late. Christopher Nolan makes spectacular event films that demand a viewing in the movie theater, focusing on stories that are best told as a movie. This film will introduce one of our most important scientists to millions around the world - forever. For most of its runtime, Oppenheimer places the viewer inside its titular character’s mind. One of director Christopher Nolan’s characters in 2020’s Tenet says, "Don’t try to understand it. Feel it." Inside the mind of Oppenheimer, we see particles buzzing, interacting, circling. A chaotic mess that is a display of the fundamentals of the world. Oppenheimer’s imagination is filled with quantum physics long before most physicists took the field seriously. He is a man possessed by his scientific view of the world desperately trying to assemble it into knowledge. To paraphrase Oppenheimer in the film, his childhood dream was to connect his favorite place in the world, his ranch in Los Alamos, New Mexico, to his love of physics. At the end of the show, the effect of the film made everyone eerily quiet. There was no applause; I did not overhear anyone gushing over the technical wizardry. This film makes you take on Oppenheimer’s afflictions, caused by the most epic sense of circumstances the world has ever seen. His theoretical and managerial brilliance in a crisis, his guilt of creating the atomic bomb, his demise from his role as project director, his late-stage graciousness to those who betrayed his trust, and his desolate vision of the future. Imagine your childhood dream becoming your defining, living nightmare – and the greatest terror in the world. This was an experience only possible at the movies.
- RipLinesManApril 8, 2025Oppenheimer doesn’t spiral into madness like Event Horizon (1997), but it stares just as deeply into the abyss—only instead of hell in space, it’s hell on Earth, built molecule by molecule by a man who sees the end and still lights the fuse. Where Event Horizon opens a portal, Oppenheimer becomes one—a quiet, brilliant singularity collapsing under the weight of his own creation.
- abuddy500July 21, 2025reality is awesomely cruel
- 匚卂尺ㄥMarch 5, 2025This movie is about the supreme intellect and the conscience of the leading creator and the team he led behind the atomic bomb in W.W.2. Known as 'the Manhattan Project'. The project cost 2 Billion dollars. That's when this amount was a big number! As far as I can see, the explanations about nuclear physics are both in the public domain and accurate. This man had a shaky start in the academic study of nuclear physics, but his insight was developing. He travelled to Europe widely and back to the U.S.A. In pursuance of his studies. He also spoke several languages. And used these languages to teach complex physics! The collision of accelerating the development of how to crack fission, and the rabid post-war 'red menace witch hunt'' investigations. This coupled with his guilt about killing so many people, showed his deepest conscience of his responsibility to the project. The sections of pre-war, wartime, and post-war are shuffled together within politics and morality spins for a structured exploration of these situations. The film flows well and it seems a shorter movie than it is. It's a movie you need to see more than once to get a grasp of its tale.
- Nathan MagretaJuly 17, 2025The movie is supported by great acting and an amazing cast and crew, but the plot is messy and the film is trying to cover everything everywhere all at the same time.
- PhineasJuly 10, 2025I can say with conviction that this is the greatest movie I have ever watched. Everything is perfect. The screenplay, the score, the cinematography, and THE ACTING. Every actor is incredible. This movie changed my experience at movie theaters, and cemented Christopher Nolan as one of my favorite directors. If you need action to stay focused, this movie isn't for you. But if you love deep subject matter and dialogue and can appreciate the production quality, you will give this 5 stars too.
- Nick AdamsJune 17, 2025Nolan goes nuclear and so does my living room. Bass so deep, the neighbours think I’m splitting atoms.
- jacob2077March 31, 2025The movie's 3 hours runtime went by as if time skipped them, it's a movie that I'll continue thinking about for a long time. This is a cinematic masterpiece, I finally understand when people say, “This is cinema.”
- Dave BarnesMarch 5, 2025Best film I've watched in a long time. Basically a two parter, with the bomb in h1 and the trial in h2 Well acted, great effects, great story.
- Kevin WardJuly 2, 2025it’s an impressive piece of filmmaking. Hoyte van Hoytema’s cinematography wows in the format for sure. The IMAX sequences are gorgeous. MVP for me might be Ludwig Göransson’s propulsive score that maintains the energy of the film even as we’re jumping back and forth between various time periods. Robert Downey Jr. is incredible here. Cillian Murphy is equally impressive as Oppenheimer himself and the film is at it’s best when it’s really exploring Oppenheimer’s struggle with the morality of creating a weapon of mass destruction, perfectly accentuated in the closing moment of the film. It’s also a long and challenging film to follow at times with so many characters, and so many jumps to varying timelines in the story. It still always feels meticulously crafted though, and I think upon rewatch it will be much easier to follow. The entire cast is stellar. I question why Florence Pugh needed to be naked in every scene....but I also dare not complain. It’s absolutely one of the must-see films of the year. I’m kind of torn on the format choice. I’m certainly grateful I got to see it in IMAX 70mm and it truly looks stunning.
- S JohnsonNovember 11, 2024Oppenheimer is a slow-burn masterpiece. Easy 5-star for me.
- luukassalokannelJune 29, 2025Great movie, realistik
- darsanMay 24, 2025"i believe we did." I still got chills watching this for the third time. the acting from cilian murphy and robert downey jr is the best, the non-linear storytelling is the best and the score by ludwig göransson is GOATED. cilian murphy, rdj and ludwig göransson deserved their oscars and christopher nolan will always be my fav director of all time and the fact that he teased this film in tenet makes it more amazing and im excited to see the odyssey next year.
- movielover200May 13, 2025Oppenheimer is easily one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. It’s powerful, intense, and so well-crafted—it completely pulls you into the mind of one of the most important (and complicated) figures in history. The performances are insane, the directing is flawless, and the whole thing just feels big in the best way possible. I recommend it to everyone. But here’s the thing—you need to know what kind of movie it is. It’s long, like three hours long, and it’s very dialogue-heavy. There’s not a lot of action or big explosive moments (ironically). It’s mainly people in rooms, talking, debating, and thinking. So if you’re not into slow-burning dramas or movies where the tension comes from conversations instead of chaos, this might not hit the same. But if you’re patient, curious, and love films that make you feel and think, Oppenheimer is absolutely worth your time.
- Todd HayMarch 4, 2025What an amazing movie! The pacing is perfect, didn't feel anything like 3 hours. Definitely another Christopher Nolan masterpiece. The cinematography in the trinity scene was brilliant, definitely to be experienced in a well tuned theater. Amazing cast, completely absorbed into their characters - i didn't think of Strauss as Robert Downey jr until the end of the movie. I was disappointed that Matt Damon didn't need saving. Even though I already knew the history, the story still plays out the suspense until the end. This is one I'll be happy to watch again.
