- David Scarpa2d agoI’ve cream man was ok certainly better than the 95 version , the kills were pretty good , there were some funny ones, yeah it’s a gorefest over plot but that’s kinda the point. Some of the CGi when it wasn’t practical effects wasn’t great. The use of AI is overblown , I can kinda see why it was used here as kids would thinking it as their addicted to their phones. My one negative is the ice cream man is too much art the clown other than that I’ve seen worse 3.00/5.00
- Garrett Wilkins2d agoI haven't gone back and watched the predecessor, but from what I am told, the 1995 original The Ice Cream Man had the kind of trashy charm that can make a bad horror movie worth remembering. This new version, unfortunately, strips away much of that personality without replacing it with anything particularly compelling. I'll preface this review with the fact that I knew going in that a slasher with a premise centered around children was never going to be an easy sell for me. The biggest problem with this The Ice Cream Man, though, is how cheap every aspect of it feels, and when the budget is $5.5 million, that's just not acceptable. We have seen creators make a lot more with a lot less this year. With that said, some of the practical gore is surprisingly convincing, and there is clearly real craft behind the work. Unfortunately, that effort doesn't extend to the rest of the production. The digital effects look weightless, and the kills rarely have the impact the movie seems to be chasing. The story isn't any stronger, leaning on familiar slasher mythology and juvenile dialogue. There are moments of nasty fun here, but they're surrounded by filmmaking that feels overwhelmingly half-hearted. Roth's handling of the AI issue only adds to that frustration. Whatever the actual amount of artificial intelligence used, initially presenting all sequences as traditionally created and only correcting that claim after viewers noticed the discrepancy in those 1920s flashback scenes leaves a bad taste to say the least. This production was looking for shortcuts wherever it could find them. More than anything, The Ice Cream Man exposes Eli Roth's weaknesses as a director. At this point, I can't think of anything particularly worthwhile that Eli Roth has brought to cinema since his limited involvement with Inglourious Basterds. He fails to build tension and struggles to establish any convincing atmosphere. The result is a hollow attempt at a trashy slasher, with too little substance or imagination to make even its short runtime worth the bother.
- cultfilmliker3d agoFUCK GENERATIVE AI The cartoons didn’t look great but the flashback looked like ass. Would be hilarious if that wasn’t even AI MASS APPEAL?? Nas, you wildin’ Ah yes the best part of the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot that was universally loved, a maligned “pedo” takes revenge. Great idea to bring that back! And then we’ll just piggyback on the success of Weapons as much as possible but without the plot or quality “Stop swinging at the garbage!” he says about a pitch thrown right down the middle Eli’s waterpark line was weird as hell, but I guess the character isn’t supposed to be a good guy so I mean it works in the film I guess lol Garbage disposal switch being 10 feet away was silly Really did the second most racist way to kill black men in the 20th century for shock value huh The “girls making themselves vomit” thing was a bit odd imo Good thing that “kid” has his own power washer to clean his windshield lol Weird “‘Us’ doing the Hands Across America bit” about six years too late There is a ton of practical gore done with some comedy in mind, so there is a couple of solid moments hidden throughout this otherwise pure shite film Genuinely frustrated that a viral review I saw called this film predatory. Grow the hell up and learn how film criticism works. [full disclosure: I did eat two edibles in preparation for this screening] Watched at Warren Regal 21 Currently Ranked #123/135 in 2026 Ranked Added to 24 Hour Movie People
- Diablo4d agoI loved Ice Cream Man as a Weapons-like gory/black comedy horror. Piper (the main antagonist girl) is eerie and mysterious. I enjoy the lack of dialogue from the main antagonists. Makes for a better creepy-effect. I would love to see more films like this. Without running the ending, hearing how to defeat the Ice Cream Man sounded like a mixture of Sleepy Hollow, Medusa, and other Greek lore. I didn't like that. It felt cheap. As though the writer got lazy and couldn't come up with something unique. But, you will see for yourselves how the ending ACTUALLY goes. And thankfully, it wasn't any of those endings. That would have disappointed me. I give this film 4.5/5 stars because it is fun, hilarious (at times) and exceptionally entertaining. It doesn't need to be a AAA banger to be a high-rating film. It just needs to not be garbage. LoL!! PS - Don't ask how I saw this before it hit theatres. I'm not allowed to boast about it.
- PhysicalMedia4Life5d agoIce Cream Man is a movie that just goes for gore and nothing else. There's no story its literally non existent here; the movie is just running on empty throughout its 90 minute runtime. This feels like a film that had no script. The titular character himself is pushed 🫸 to the sidelines of his own movie. Each and every one of the characters; that are all unmemorable and have no developments or arcs or anything whatsoever, are all at the main focus and take the spotlight away from the Ice Cream Man killer. The gore effects weren't anything to write home about either. Overall "Ice Cream Man" is a huge miss & dud for Eli Roth! For me, this is easily his worst and most disappointing movie yet. Seriously don't waste your time or hard earned money on this; because it doesn't deserve it. My Personal Rating for Ice Cream Man is a 0.75/10
- Rick7d agoThis was like the end of Weapons, except it went on for an hour and a half, and much more poorly done. You just know Eli Roth thought he was being super edgy with some of the “humor” he put in this. Some pretty fun and gruesome kills though. Best part of the evening was the Don’t Go in That House, Bitch! trailer.
