- ShaydeknightSeptember 14, 2025Fixed marks a departure for Genndy Tartakovsky, best known for his work on Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and the Hotel Transylvania series. This adult animated comedy is Tartakovsky's first R-rated feature and definitely a new direction for Sony Pictures Animation. The story revolves around a dog who learns he's to be neutered the next morning, prompting him to embark on a final night of freedom with his canine friends. Kind of like the "Hangover" movies or the superior (IMHO) Spanish film "Airbag". Tartakovsky's evolution from children's animation to adult content is evident. His flair for stylized action and storytelling is one of his hallmarks, so it's a tremendous disappointment to say that Fixed merely delves into crude humour and visual shock without much else. The animation retains his signature fluidity and expressiveness, reminiscent of classic cartoons, but the story is far from compelling, it's fairly formulaic. In comparison to Ralph Bakshi's adult-oriented animations like Fritz the Cat, Coonskin, or American Pop, or Bill Plympton's "alternative animation" work, Fixed attempts to push boundaries but comes off as merely adolescent. While both Bakshi and Plympton are mission-oriented, Tartakovsky merely produces a film that falls flat. There are a lot more people producing adult animated films these days, whether due to sexual content, violence, or mature themes. In just the last couple of years we've had Predator: Killer of Killers, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, DC's Watchmen Chapters 1 and 2, Memoir of a Snail, and heck, I would even argue that Flow wasn't a movie for kids. In general, Tartakovsky needs to up his game if he wants the crown. The animation is visually striking, but its heavy reliance on shock value and crude humour undercuts both its potential depth and cultural resonance. It feels like the early, slapdash Adam Sandler of adult animation, when what we’re ready for is the more nuanced, "Hustle"-era Adam Sandler of adult animation. Fixed showcases Tartakovsky's willingness to explore new territories in animation but he kind of creates something that's merely passable for the 16-year-old crowd. It reflects his evolving creative journey, I really hope he tries again and does better. Two other stupid points: First, I find Adam Devine's voice to be extremely grating and I got tired of listening to it after about 10 minutes. Second, I found it strange that they showed a lot of scrota but too few accompanying penises. It was an animation choice, I assume. And I don't have a driving need to see dog penises, believe me, but when a film starts to pointedly leave out a detail, it begins to grate on your nerves. Like when characters in zombie movies never use the word "zombie".
- P. LoganNovember 27, 2025The animation is superb. Smooth, 2D drawn animation in a style you just don't see anymore. The story is raunchy, but surprisingly cohesive. A star studded cast and director deliver this bizarre film to surprising success. Its not for everyone, but it's well worth watching if the first 5 minutes don't make you shut it off.
- Rob Logan | The Geek GenerationAugust 17, 2025While it’s nice to see a proper animated movie, Fixed is unfortunately a bit of a bore that relies too heavily on raunch instead of humor.
- fredbeardSeptember 1, 2025It's ok, I'm not sure I'm going to finish it. It's definitely not what I expected from Genndy Tartakovsky and I'm trying to keep my mind open about it.
- JohnAugust 17, 2025No jokes. Shambles of a narrative. Just some gross-out humor, if that’s what that was.
- Oʂɯαʅԃσ RσყҽƚƚAugust 14, 2025It's very obvious from the first minute that this is a adult animation and you need to go into it with that in mind. This movie is funny as hell and if you're a fan of South Park level comedy you'll love it. Despite the humor it actually has a great plot with everything you could ask for in this kind of adult comedy.
- wayne StokesAugust 25, 2025I want 1 hour 30 minutes of my life back.
- crashcartAugust 13, 2025It wasn't nearly as crude as it should have been.. it has its funny parts. But I suggest going in with something that makes you have a good time.
- kristinleeoneAugust 24, 2025Fred Armisen is terrible at everything he does. Just him being involved ruins it.
- cultfilmlikerAugust 15, 2025Very dumb! Kinda funny! Not great! Adam Devine’s voice acting reminds me of Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory even tho the characters are nothing alike Beck Bennett is so good in everything
