Death of a Unicorn Ratings & Reviews
- PunisherApril 6, 2025The unicorns do not always have to be cute and nice shows us the film very well. It's different. The idea to shoot a film about unicorns is great. The story is entertaining and the special effects are even very good. You can be curious about this movie.
- Johan Dupré12h agoWORST.MOVIE.EVER!!! A total waste of time and money.
- COCOMarch 22, 2025Hard to keep your interest when the story tries to be unique and different but turns into an absolute snooze-fest.
- HarryBalzack3h agoI don't know where to start. Fire the writer? Fire the director? Definitely do not watch this if you're expecting comedy because there is none. Horror? On a stupid level? Oh yeah. We really need the ability to rate negative stars. Just awful.
- Michiel8h agoI dont know what to say about this apart from it being a fantasy movie with pretty bad graphics (CGI) and a way to long, uninteresting story.
- parktool6910h agoPerfect movie I love unicorns
- theicephoenix19h agoIt was pretty generic, but I still enjoyed it overall.
- RipLinesManApril 20, 2025Death of a Unicorn (2025) and Event Horizon (1997) both strand their characters in places that twist logic and morality — one in a corporate wilderness tinged with dark fantasy, the other in the endless void of deep space. Paul Rudd plays it straight, offering a grounded performance as a father forced into damage control when a unicorn-shaped secret starts spiraling out of control. Meanwhile, Laurence Fishburne’s Captain Miller leads with gravity in Event Horizon, trying to hold his crew together as their sanity dissolves. Jenna Ortega brings sharpness and skepticism to her role, serving as the audience’s anchor in Unicorn’s stranger moments. But the script around her often drifts into quirk for quirk’s sake. In contrast, Sam Neill’s performance as Dr. Weir in Event Horizon is pure descent — unsettling and fully committed, pulling the film deeper into psychological horror. Where Event Horizon embraces its madness with full commitment, Death of a Unicorn seems unsure whether to lean into satire, horror, or allegory. It raises fascinating questions but doesn’t dig deep enough. Both films walk into the unknown — one loses its way, the other loses its mind. Only one feels like it meant to.
- Alex | Pop Culture BrainMarch 28, 2025Can a movie get by on a great premise alone? I saw A24’s Death of a Unicorn, so here’s the good and the bad without spoilers First off, I want to praise writer director Alex Scharfman for coming up with a very original and clever premise A realistic, dark comedy approach that imagines a unicorn in modern day is kind of genius And Scharfman’s movie mostly lives up to that concept It goes all out with the gore and the kills And it’s funny enough throughout - while it wasn’t laugh a minute, it did get me a handful of times Mostly thanks to Will Poulter’s over the top performance as a spoiled rich boy He delivered some hilarious line readings, facial expressions, and just general vibes He knew what movie he was in for sure While Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega were stable enough as the leads And the music was a highlight as well. Iit’s got a vibey electronic thing going — reminding me of Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor’s work on Challengers On the other hand, it seemed like the budget was not at a level to fully execute Scharfman’s vision The CGI and the special effects were pretty rough throughout - I just didn’t really find the creature work believable Also, you could tell this was Scharfman’s first feature The script has some clunky pacing and dialogue, and felt a little formulaic in its structure I found the jump scares to be pretty Ineffective And despite Ortega and Rudd’s efforts, I'm not sure the movie earned its emotional catharsis But all those flaws aside, Death of a Unicorn was original enough to be entertaining - so points for that
