A weekend retreat has deadly consequences when a father (Paul Rudd) and daughter (Jenna Ortega) accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to find his billionaire boss seeks to exploit the creature's miraculous curative properties.
Honestly felt like a late 90s to mid 2000s cgi silly creature feature movie that is tongue in cheek and yet still takes it self seriously with its absurd premise. Not some heady, “elevated” insert whatever genre here, A24 is more known for. For as tropey and on the nose as the satire of the rich ppl being vapid, soulless, selfish and idiotic, It just works. With Will Poulter giving a few laugh out loud lines with as much enthusiasm and seriousness as any more serious role. The definition of a polarizing, hate to love and love to hate role. The cgi is passable mostly while still being super apparent. It’s honestly not much but if you let yourself have a good time with the strange mix of comedy, fantasy and horror, its a pretty fun ride. Some really fun, brutal and gory unicorn kills, and if your paying attention its all the same kills they show in the tapestry, which is a fun setup/payoff. Possibly destined to be a cult fav down the road, idk. Prob not. But if it somehow does end up as such it wont be a huge surprise.
