Chappie Ratings & Reviews
- SniffinTroutAugust 29, 2025Idk why people dislike this movie I love it, wish they'd bring chappie 2 out already, cause the ending of the first is asking for one.
- M08YSeptember 11, 2025Despite Chappie's flaws, there is a good movie in there somewhere. The story of outlaws raising a child to further their exploits isn't a new idea, but it feels fairly fresh here with it's backdrop of the South African crime scene and advanced robotic law enforcement. The ideas of consciousness and true life are left almost entirely unexplored which is a shame as I believe that Blomkamp could have done some interesting things there. The plot hinges on a few too many contrivances for my liking and the dialogue is a bit ropey at times, but it's not egregious enough to pull you out of the film. Signourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman are both absolutely wasted in Chappie, I can't quite work out why you'd barely give them anything to do. Now for Die Antwoord... Certainly an interesting choice. I imagine they jumped at the opportunity to play slightly mental wannabe gangsters. I actually did not hate their inclusion in this film, They didn't overstay their welcome for me and they seemed to be fairly well suited in their roles... despite their rather questionable moral standing these days. The 4K Bluray looks pretty good, the CGI on Chappie looks GREAT. There are a few slightly iffy shots towards the end of the movie but I can overlook it. The audio was fine.
- Corey BurkesSeptember 14, 2025My rating for Chappie used to be higher. I think the more I actually work with real-time AI, the less I appreciate the cinematic fantasy. Plus, I’ve never liked the directors abysmal point of view of South Africa. You can put this, District 9 and Elysium together and you won’t know where one film ends and the other begins. But he did Gran Turismo. I liked that movie.
- Daniel GustavssonOctober 11, 2024Really really REALLY bad and annoying movie. Probably Hugh Jackmans worst performance of all time too.
