Looking back what the hell was the goal with Vietnam, I got to be honest I don’t see the vision Willem Dafoe was just randomly in this lmao

It is quite sad that Cruise was in a Best Actor category with Morgan Freeman, Daniel Day Lewis, Kenneth Branagh, and Robin Williams. Any other year, it would have been his. But, the trophy, I think, doesn’t matter, just as a medal would not have made a difference to the man he plays, Ron Kovic. It was a legendary performance in 1989 and it is a legendary performance 30 years later in 2019.

This movie has some acting that may have been good at the time of its production but doesn't hold up today. And yet it is another movie in which the message makes it an amazing piece of work. All too often Americans talk about being patriotic, even while they neglect to aknowledge those who have served to protect our liberties here in the States. Our veterans go over seas to fight the battles that the Elite send them to fight, only for those who make it home carrying both visible and invisble wounds, that find themselves returning to a world that can often be unwelcoming. Those who struggle with thier mental health are often scorned and made fun of. And many live with PTSD that forever changes their lives. We need to do better for these men and women. Above all it's time to stop sacraficing lives fighting wars for the rich to get richer. Let them fight their own wars.

This movie doesn’t get the same praise as other Vietnam War movies, I’m assuming because much of it is dealing with the trauma of the war rather than the events in the war itself, but I think it’s in the same realm as other classic movies in the genre.

Tom overacts like a hyperactive squirrel to varying degrees but the film still manages to deliver decent emotional weight. Acceptable.

Oliver Stone again shows why he really is a master filmmaker. Fantastic film, brilliantly cast, acted (Cruise is on fine form indeed), produced & directed. All the right ingredients are here & it's all been prepared with a careful, professional touch, right from the spellbinding story up. At times very sad, but always gritty, Born on the 4th July highlights yet again the atrocities of war & yet again begs the question why any man would be so willing to spill his guts, thousands of miles away in a foreign land, only to be treated so crudely, disgustingly, upon his return... If only more people understood the true meaning behind Springsteen's Born in the USA, but at least this movie smacks the watcher straight in the face with it. Excellent movie, thank you Mr Stone, highly recommended.
