Where to Watch Spartacus: House of Ashur
- Edwin M. N.December 12, 2025Enjoyable adaptation of the original series ..... carving a slightly different path yet keeping the essence of what made the original so entertaining ... a few moments where there is disconnect however it quickly regains form and shows a steady path towards exciting conclusion .... Fans of Spartacus will most definitely enjoy this "What If" Spinoff ...
- Tim and KenFebruary 21, 2026Hot daaaaayaaam, this far exceeded expectations! Yes, the outcomes of some of the matches are predictable, but this is a very well choreographed spectacle. Historically, completely inacurrate, since "real life" Gladiators hardly died, and they were choreographed acts similar to the WWE of today, but still, highly entertaining and an epic end to the first season. Hoping that Starz will officially pick this up for a Season 2!
- mriveraalvarezFebruary 13, 2026Great show, can't get enough. Has what every man wants in a show, plenty of violence and plenty of salacious scenes. I didn't know what to expect when I saw Ashur come back, but he grew on me and became a very likable character, compared to his role in the previous series.
- Danny Potter-JonesFebruary 12, 2026I absolutely do understand the criticism of this show, but I still somehow oddly enjoyed it crazy!! I know, probably because the actor for Ashur is great to watch and I've been missing shows with a bit of realism and grit. Let's just hope the second season is a LOT better. Side note this Ashur is quite different from the original he is not as conniving or as evil, but apparently for season two he will be going back to his original traits, I guess the best take you can put on this is he tried to do it the Roman way for season one and it did not work so he's doing it his way from now on. I didn't see this as a woke fantasy I just saw it as kind of poor writing at times. It is somewhat historically accurate because female Gladiators did exist but they weren't treated the same as the men they never got the main event and they did not fight other men, but they did face other women and animals but it is slightly vague if they faced anybody with disabilities such as dwarfism and something visibly obvious. They've taken a lot more liberties then the original series and I think if you're looking for something that is somewhat more realistic this will upset you a little bit, because honestly I was, but you also need to take into account this is more of a "What If" story Ashur is 1000% dead in the main line story. The main issue the power scaling is absolute rubbish yes I can believe a woman could win a fight against a man but it's gonna take some convincing because men are better in a fight period. I'm not against her being the main Gladiator but she has zero charisma think that might be down to poor writing in general for her character because there are other characters that are believable and likable. Like I think Ashur, Proculus, Celadus and Gabinus and his family are good characters. I even like Tarchon and he's a whiny baby with issues but he does have reasonable points he just goes about them the wrong way. Think they did handle some of the issues with the Gladiators having an issue with a female Gladiator correctly because I would think in a real life scenario in that time period she would be picked on and abused because it's a slight betrayal to the traditions but they gloss over it a bit too quickly. Found myself laughing more than I should which might put people off from the show. I think the way to fix the scaling issue in combat is to do tag team matches from now on in season 2, because there's no way she could consistently beat men and make it convincing every single time and it just makes it seem theres no consequences or jeopardy. Also in the original series when any gladiator speaks out of turn and goes against people of power they would be punished she seems to walk away from quite a bit of that. First season felt a little rushed but it can be fixed and can be watchable if season 2 fixes the main issues. Also there needs to be more story lines running alongside each other than just the main plot as i think that makes the universe feel emptier than the original. I remember the original having like several story lines running alongside the main plot everyone was competing against each other and causing problems.
