An old storyteller tells European folk tales to his sarcastic dog.
Sprookjesverteller Ratings & Reviews
- Richard12 oktober 2025This one felt like magic whispered through the screen. An old man by the fire, spinning European folk tales to his sarcastic dog, The Storyteller was unlike anything else on TV. John Hurt brought gravitas and warmth, while Brian Henson’s dog added just the right touch of wit. Together, they invited you into a world where giants mourned, devils bargained and luck could be born in a cradle. The puppetry was classic Henson, earthy, expressive and hauntingly beautiful. Each episode was a miniature myth, crafted with care and a touch of darkness. Stories like The Soldier and Death and Sapsorrow didn’t shy away from sadness or strangeness, they embraced it, making the tales feel timeless and deeply human. Watching this on TV as a kid felt like being let in on something ancient and secret. It wasn’t just entertainment, it was storytelling in its purest form. And even now, it holds up. The visuals, the music, the mood, it’s all still spellbinding.
