Desperate Housewives has gone nowhere. All sorts of weightless story lines have been thrown up on the screen, then abandoned because they hadn't been sufficiently developed to make them stick.
Entertainment Weekly
Henry Goldblatt
Even at its weakest, Housewives is better than 75 percent of network television, but the writers shouldn't be satisfied with that: They need to find a way to put these women in a room together.
USA Today
Robert Bianco
Even at a reduced gear, Housewives is one of the medium's rare pleasures, one that should be able to ride on our affection for its actors and characters long enough for the writers to find their way home again.
7M Pictures
Kevin Carr
Fortunately, things ramp up a little bit in the end of the season. We leave the alcoholic housewife and pining daughter storylines for something with a little more bite.
MSNBC
Gael Fashingbauer Cooper
"Housewives" got off to a fast, and creepy, start in its second season, with a new housewife and a new horrible secret.
Chicago Tribune
Maureen Ryan
The show is adrift in silly contrivances (as opposed to inventive situations), painful dialogue and obvious wheel-spinning.
Slant Magazine
Ed Gonzalez
Accused of hawking a lurid form of conservatism, you get a sense Marc Cherry and his cohorts intend to say something profound about suburbia with their outmoded view of womanhood and the places they call home.
Denver Post
Joanne Ostrow
Now the novelty is wearing off, and the hour is edging toward vapidity.
New York Daily News
David Bianculli
The [second season] still doesn't seem to have any traction. Even the twists aren't as twisted as they used to be.
Variety
Brian Lowry
How well [Marc] Cherry and company can keep adding layers while inching the existing stories forward ultimately will determine just how long the Alphabet net will wake up smiling Monday mornings, but so far, so good.
The Virginian-Pilot
Larry Bonko
What was a bright, clever, witty, quirky and amusing series last season has gone flat.
Bullz-Eye.com
Bullz-Eye Staff
There's nothing particularly forbidden about watching this show, but just do so in small doses.
IGN Movies
Peter Schorn
With strong performances across the board, all that's needed to return Desperate Housewives to form is tighter writing and less of Susan Mayer shooting herself in the foot.
Entertainment Weekly
Michael Slezak
I could say the writing on Desperate Housewives isn't very nice either, but it's still very rich. And who'd have it any other way?
