Wheelman Ratings & Reviews

Frank Grillo is good and the film looks slick, that doesn't cause the paper thin, unexciting, and kinda dumb to be any better. This movie may be short but man does it drag. Him talking to goons and whiney family members for 80% of it doesn't make for an entertaining movie. The car chases are also very short and not that complex. This feels like the poor man's Drive. Make sure you hit "Pause" if you have to walk away from the Netflix stream for a moment, because you don't want to miss a trick here.
RogerEbert.com
Glenn Kenny
A little less than 90 minutes of annoyance.
Slashfilm
Jacob Hall
It's breathless. No scene feels unnecessary and no line of dialogue extemporaneous. It feels like a throwback without feeling like a relic. It's a blast.
Variety
Joe Leydon
Jeremy Rush's fast-paced neo-noir thriller is a perfect-fit star vehicle for Frank Grillo.
Variety
Peter Debruge
It's a grade-A B-movie that gets maximum mileage from a carefully calibrated mix of hardboiled neo-noir melodrama and high-velocity minimalism.
Austin Chronicle
Richard Whittaker
This is a white-knuckle ride, with a twisting script to match.
The Hollywood Reporter
John DeFore
Much "who's doublecrossing who?" ensues, and if the dialogue flags occasionally, there's always background action to contend with.
KSDK News (St. Louis)
Dan Buffa
Written and directed with precise skill and determination by Jeremy Rush, you wouldn't dare guess this was his first movie.
Cinema76
Dan Scully
It's an astonishing debut from a potent new filmmaker.
Cinapse
Ed Travis
The vision for the film is clear, and as Wheelman's priorities and plans crystalize, the movie shifts gears into a full-throated action/chase film that's truly cinematic, edge of your seat stuff.
Glue Magazine
Annie Banks
It only took nineteen days to shoot, and it's evident. Even if Grillo had performed most of the driving himself, his final product is underwhelming at best.
Film School Rejects
Matthew Monagle
The most surprising element of Wheelman, however, is the strength of its plotting.
The Daily Dot
David Wharton
Wheelman is a ride well worth taking.
IGN Movies
William Bibbiani
The selling point of Wheelman, the idea of a car chase movie that takes place almost entirely within a car, makes Jeremy Rush's film novel but it also makes it rattle a bit.
Birth.Movies.Death.
Jacob Knight
Wheelman is a movie slightly at war with itself. It's an anti-action picture that still attempts to commit to the genre trappings it's visually toying with.
Birth.Movies.Death.
Evan Saathoff
Frank Grillo shines in this minimalist take on the crime film genre.
ScreenCrush
Britt Hayes
A unique perspective wasted on a film that fails to deliver any actual excitement.
We Got This Covered
Matt Donato
Wheelman is all about speed and timing in the best ways - simple, exciting and for the love of Bronson, can we give Frank Grillo the credit he deserves?
Wizard
Todd Gilchrist
Wheelman probably works better as a technical exercise than the white-knuckle thriller it aspires to be, but those eager to watch another The Driver (or, surprisingly, Locke) will find much to admire in Jeremy Rush's debut as a writer-director.
