Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In Ratings & Reviews
- PatrikStarMarch 29, 2025Hong Kong CINEMA at its best!
- VarunNovember 17, 2024Starts off pretty well with a good action scene but the movie gets laughably bad as time goes on. I don’t mind unrealistic physics as long as it’s used sparingly to give some flair but it continues to get goofy af. The character and world building for the first hour is good, I really liked the depictions of the cramped walled city, but it unfortunately leads nowhere since the crucial backstory that’s dropped in the middle is so half-baked and lame. Then they add a villain who has “spirit power” that makes him completely invulnerable to physical damage which is the worst and most unrealistic part of the film. I mentally checked out at that point, just continued watching it for the action which did have some crazy moments but was ultimately a turn off.
- cherrygrove.January 23, 2026I’ve studied Kowloon Walled City, and am fascinated with the history and architecture. This movie absolutely nails it. I wanted to see more of it. But the city itself is a character in the movie, serving as a haven for the criminal characters. It doesn’t get everything perfect, but it’s probably the best realization of the city on film (and there isn’t a lot) The story is surprisingly good and engaging, and normally I’m not into martial arts films for the story. The action is fantastical and, at times, goofy. But it’s fun, and has moments of brutality that do a good job of getting a reaction out of you. It drags a tiny bit in the middle section, but overall I’d say this movie is well worth a watch. I heard this is supposed to be a trilogy of movies, I hope so. I want more.
- HyperTendenciesDecember 31, 2025Chinese action cinema at it's best. Inject this film straight into my blood pls. It doesn't matter that what the characters are doing is unrealistic, it looks awesome.
- Joe GNovember 21, 2025Everything movies like John Wick get wrong, this film gets right—and the things John Wick does well, Twilight does at least reasonably. It isn’t perfect, but it understands balance: spectacle without noise, action without emptiness, and style grounded in character rather than choreography alone. Not all of its choices land. Certain supernatural or physically impossible moments push too far, breaking the film’s internal logic. Extended leaps, airborne spins, and exaggerated strikes fit the genre; invincible enemies do not. The film thrives when grounded in heightened realism, and those deviations feel out of place. The set design is excellent, and the violence is measured—impactful without tipping into gore that would distract from the choreography. The story is developed enough to give weight to the characters’ relationships, creating a genuine sense of loss when one is killed or put in danger. Each character has a distinct look that feels appropriate to the setting, detailed without sliding into caricature. Some plot lines are overly convoluted, but not to the film’s detriment. They complicate the narrative without undermining it, and the core remains coherent and compelling
- Rowan KrzysiakJuly 9, 2025A film with consistenly bizarre pacing, dialogue and plot choices. The fight scenes are too sparse and lack the exhilleration to make up for the juvenile drudgery of everything else. It's puzzling because it feels that commercial pressure neuters an out an out action flick but it wears that confusion with pride and unashamedly brims with confidence throughout. Regardless, it's completely terrible. Absolutely terrible
