The Wind that Shakes the Barley Ratings & Reviews
- michaelmunday353June 28, 2025An interesting, personal look at the times leading up to the Irish Civil War. Not the usual treatment of history that focuses on the big picture and paints with a broad brush. Very intimate approach with well developed characters. Fairly adequate depiction of the terrorism visited on the population by the tans. For those that do not know Irish history, it could be a bit confusing about their origin, thus only 4 stars. Still would recommend the film.
- Charles LondonMarch 26, 2025This film, featuring a fictional plot set against historic events, is both entertaining and educational. I came away having enjoyed the story, while learning history about the Irish War of Independence (from Britain) and the ensuing civil war that would lead to a divided Ireland. Good movie for the drama hungry and the knowledge thirsty.
- cultfilmlikerMay 21, 2025Man, the English are truly inept lol we gotta stop letting stupid people colonize Hilarious that the loss of life didn’t change his mind but the emotional damage done to a train did Young Dylan would have loved showing this to his Catholic-“hating” friends growing up lol Some unnatural, tacky dialogue at some crucial moments unfortunately Yeah uh if a landlord gives a predatory loan with 500% interest, they are essentially asking to be murdered The emotional impact of fighting back is immense and I’m sure it would have made a real impact on me if the dialogue didn’t occasionally take me out of it completely! Borders aren’t real! Stop fixating on them!! Our aversion to globalism will certainly accelerate the demise of humanity! Damien freaking out on the loyalist army for killing Dan was so funny. Absolutely terrible scene. Would honestly embrace an ideological civil war at this point. End it - one way or another lolol Some high highs and some low lows!
