The Little Mermaid Ratings & Reviews
- Duda CaribeApril 3, 2025In my opinion, Disney classics are true works of art. They should never be modified or adapted. The actress who plays Ariel is beautiful, without a doubt, but she has nothing to do with the Little Mermaid, who is a redhead. This and other reasons are why Disney studios are struggling.
- Movie Reviewers ClubJanuary 26, 2025A beautiful mermaid surfaces to a whole new world and discovers where her heart truly belongs. In this Disney recreation, Halle Bailey puts on a stunning performance that will inspire children in this new age. With many other great actors this movie lights up the morning sky with a fresh take on the classic children's tale, The Little Mermaid. Ariel is a mermaid who lives under the sea with her other mermaid family and lots of different sea life. Her father King Triton has ruled over Atlantica and all merfolk ever since his father, Poseidon, gave him the throne. He sets his limits on Ariel knowing her curiosity could get her into a myriad of trouble. Of course she can't help but going to the surface still. There she finds something she never expected... Javier Bardam and Halle Bailey play father, daughter with Melissa McCarthy as Aunt Ursula. Daveed Diggs takes on the role of Sebastian and makes it his own. Awkwafina gets to voice act for Scuttle and adds well appreciated comedy to the mix. Emotions fly high during the ups and fall during the lows, providing a fun ride through the world of Disney. Altogether this musical provides fun entertainment for the whole family and nostalgia to most. Well crafted, something new that plays well within the Little Mermaid universe.
- Kevin WardJuly 2, 2025This original The Little Mermaid is one of those movies that was on repeat in my household as a kid, along with every Disney Sing-a-long VHS ever. (Thanks mostly to my sister, and my mom). But accordingly, I know every song by heart. I was worried that might be an issue going into this film. When you know how something is supposed to sound, any deviation can be very off putting. Halle Bailey f🤩king killed the songs, no doubt. But honestly, (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) Melissa McCarthy’s Poor Unfortunate Souls is what completely won me over. Floored. Music was definitely the biggest factor for me and this version delivered the goods. As for the rest of the film, it works well enough. The underwater visuals are definitely not Avatar 2 level. James Cameron has spoiled us. The VFX looks good for the most part, but character movement doesn’t always look natural. For that reason you kind of just have to accept the overall aesthetic—and that may not work for everyone. Spoiler maybe 🤷🏻♂️ but they really went for the Giant Ursula at the end and I loved it. Thought for sure they would have a different visualization in mind for the finale, but they really stuck close to the original. I thought it was great and it’s probably something that would freak out my youngest son if he watched it. I did watch this was my daughter which was cool because I had forgotten that it’s a good father/daughter story (probably more so than it is a romance). Great experience. I’m not a big fan of the Disney Live Action remakes, but this really worked. I hope it does well at the box office. It really doesn’t need to be so long though.
- Hipster ZOMBIEJanuary 26, 2025Disney continues to fail with their live action remakes and The Little Mermaid is the latest. Everything about this interpretation speaks of virtue signaling and does the film no favors. The casting is off, the music is horribly recreated, and the overall tone just feels odd. A real misfire from Disney.
