The Island of Dr. Moreau
Directed by John Frankenheimer, Richard Stanley4.623%20%4.9
Set in the year 2010, Dr. Moreau has successfully combined human and animal DNA to make a crossbreed animal. Well, as usual, something goes wrong and David Thewlis must try to stop it before it is too late. Originally rated R, but cut by Frankenheimer to allow "a wider audience".
The Island of Dr. Moreau Ratings & Reviews
- Absolute Russian5d agoI don’t care what anyone says about this movie. I genuinely enjoyed it and I thought it was a legitimately excellent movie! Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer actually made it work in my opinion, especially Marlon Brando. I honestly don’t understand the hate for this movie, but if I’m one of the few that enjoys this movie then so be it! I’m fine with that!
- marshalseaOctober 7, 2025Not a great film by any judgement, but it's not as bad as it gets slated. Definitely better than a lot of modern low quality story films - this one has a message, albeit very clumsily delivered but you get some good acting from everyone involved, so you can't complain too much. Set design is pretty good, and the cast are obviously just going with it. OST is above normal standard - lovely orchestral pieces mixed in with some contemporary music. You could do worse, you could do better.
- Magnus CarlbaumApril 5, 2025I'm probably the only one who likes this movie. It's like a fever dream. Absurd. Disjointed. Bizarre. There's no way to defend it. Maybe I just like fever dreams. Maybe it's because I had a huge obsessive crush on Fairuza Balk at the time. Maybe it's because I saw it at the cinema in Hong Kong on my round the world trip, and this movie perfectly mirrored the madness outside the cinema
- Mister ArnMay 24, 2025Trying to recreate the Wells' story as a fantasy "Apocalypse Now," doesn't work even with Brando in white face.
