Sam Claflin’s charismatic Finnick and Jena Malone’s fierce Johanna add depth to the ensemble. Although not as tight or unsettling as Event Horizon, Catching Fire successfully expands the Hunger Games universe with higher emotional stakes and polished visuals. It occasionally leans on repetition from the first film, but thanks to strong performances and a more politically charged tone, it earns 3.5 stars as a solid, if slightly uneven, sequel that builds suspense in its own way.
