Contact between most towns on Earth has been severed. A small ring-like area in Eastern Europe still has electricity, and maybe even life is being reported from space. What military forces find outside the ring is shocking.

The Blackout doesn’t just ask “what if the lights went out?"it asks what happens when the very fabric of reality begins to fray. Watching this Russian sci-fi thriller feels like being dropped into a world where the rules have changed and no one bothered to tell you. The film opens with a chilling premise: most of Earth has gone dark, save for a mysterious ring of light in Eastern Europe. From there, it spirals into a tense, cerebral battle between survival and surrender. I went in with no expectations, and maybe that’s why I was surprised. Yes, the pacing stumbles and it leans heavily on genre tropes. But it surprised me in the best way and turned into a win and I enjoyed it.
