The Blackout
Directed by Egor Baranov- RichardAugust 31, 2025The Blackout doesn’t just ask “what if the lights went out?"it asks what happens when the very fabric of reality begins to fray. Watching this Russian sci-fi thriller feels like being dropped into a world where the rules have changed and no one bothered to tell you. The film opens with a chilling premise: most of Earth has gone dark, save for a mysterious ring of light in Eastern Europe. From there, it spirals into a tense, cerebral battle between survival and surrender. I went in with no expectations, and maybe that’s why I was surprised. Yes, the pacing stumbles and it leans heavily on genre tropes. But it surprised me in the best way and turned into a win and I enjoyed it.
