The Ballad of Wallis Island Ratings & Reviews
- cultfilmlikerMay 19, 2025I thought this was going to be a commentary on art, patronage, and the unhealthy relationship some fans have with the artist, but it ended up being more about the artists’ relationship including their art….and then it goes back to my original thesis. All while being comedic and grappling with the past! Such a uniquely sad and annoying character. The Brits are very good at that! Hilarious in the most tiresome way The lantern-tracking shot was very neat. Loved the music! Beautiful film! Added to 2025 Ranked
- Rowan KrzysiakMay 19, 2025It's an enjoyable movie even with all the contrivances that drive it. The emotion in Tim Key's eyes genuinely moved me on a couple of occasions.
- Jay Ashley Sparks2d agoWhat a great film! had no expectations going into watching this. The performance by Tim Key was outstanding, his portrail of Charles was simply outstanding.
- Rick Masters5d agoYou know them perfect Sunday afternoon kinda films that come along now and again… The well written, calm and heartfelt films that leave a warm fuzzy feeling? THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND sits on the very top of that pile. Wonderful little gem.
- Stuey The Pooey & His KangarooeyJuly 22, 2025A really sweet, chill, funny, film. You don't necessarily get what you want at the end, but you do get what you need.
- Steven VickersJuly 14, 2025Slow tone to the movie, sadly wholesome. Along the same kinda vibes as the movie About Time.
- Alex | Pop Culture BrainJuly 2, 2025Funny, tuneful, heartwarming, and heart breaking
- JoelJune 1, 2025This is a warm hug of a movie. To quote the great philosopher FlightReacts “nice, made me happy, made me smile”
- Kevin WardJuly 1, 2025Loved Loved Loved this. Tim Key is so f🤩king funny in this. This felt like a John Carney movie (just less Irish). Tom Basden and Carey Mulligan truly excellent as well. Didn’t play out how I thought it would but was moved all the same.
- Ian GreatheadJune 27, 2025Absolutely grand!
- Randy HarrisJune 22, 2025Terrific movie.
- elliotclowesMay 24, 2025This is a gentle stroll of a film. And a slightly tough one to rate. I believe it was first a short film, and it doesn’t quite warrant its two hour run time. You’ll know early on if this is your kind of film. It’s a specific kind of slow, dry, depressing but fun British comedy. And if you don’t like its vibe, don’t stick with it expecting a big pay off. The final third certainly isn’t a big set piece or a change from the rest of the film. But I liked this. It’s sweet and harmless. What little it has to say when it comes to its bigger themes, it merely whispers them. This is largely made up of puns and scenery and it’s rather lovely. The sort of film you’d put on on a rainy weekend morning when you want something unchallenging and unexciting. 63%
- burtjohansonJune 16, 2025I laughed a lot. Tim Key’s acting and character are just perfect. 👌
- AjayJune 10, 2025A sweet tale of romance, luck, and general life in itself, this film is a predictable yet charming romp on Wallis Island, where the boat comes after each screening of the film. The performances are strong and provide some serious backing to the gravity of the film's messages, and ends up hooking you into the characters more than you'd initially expected. Just wish the beginning wasn't as much of a slog.
