This is a gentle stroll of a film. And a slightly tough one to rate. I believe it was first a short film, and it doesn’t quite warrant its two hour run time.
You’ll know early on if this is your kind of film. It’s a specific kind of slow, dry, depressing but fun British comedy. And if you don’t like its vibe, don’t stick with it expecting a big pay off. The final third certainly isn’t a big set piece or a change from the rest of the film.
But I liked this. It’s sweet and harmless. What little it has to say when it comes to its bigger themes, it merely whispers them. This is largely made up of puns and scenery and it’s rather lovely. The sort of film you’d put on on a rainy weekend morning when you want something unchallenging and unexciting. 63%
