- TheMovieWallAugust 28, 2026This movie was a great start to the last 3 episodes. Unfortunately it was downhill from here. Spoiler alert. I very much enjoyed this movie. The world they created is amazing. It feels real and immersive. I love all the new creatures and robots. A few things just set them in the wrong direction. Mainly Rey's character arc. I couldn't get on board with it. She's some loner who lives on Jakku by herself and is managing to survive scrapping parts but she looks like she works at Starbucks and constantly slathers herself with sunscreen. Where's the tan?!! She lives in the desert! How is she not filthy. She must have really good hygiene. And throughout the movie she act like a genius and an amazing pilot. I mean come on. You can't be everything. It makes you kind of shake your head. She always knows what buttons to push and when she actually does mess up there are usually zero consequences. I thought it was weird too that she didn't want to leave the planet. Heaven forbid your gone from there for 20 minutes. You think your parents are gonna show up and just see your not there and say O well we tried byyeeee. I mean don't they have a bulletin board or something? Leave a sticky note on your hut..."be back in 20". I digress. I like Daisy Ridley and think she did a good job with what she was given. Finn is a cool character in this movie. I think he was underutilized as the movies continue on. His banter with Poe is hilarious which brings that classic Star Wars humor back a bit. Kylo is pretty damn cool as well. Lots of great action sequences especially anything to do with flying. The hand to hand combat was pretty poor just a lot of barbaric wild swinging of light sabers or electrically type weapons. Not a fan. This is supposed to be way in the future and Jedi's are still at this level of swordplay...come on. I get that Rey is some super force manipulator but so was Kylo. He was also really powerful. And he's actually trained, but somehow she just owns him after maybe 2 minutes with the force. It doesn't make a lot of sense. The propped up Kylo to be this beast and then he just gets owned. It would have been so much more powerful if they kept that going. Made him scary and someone to be feared. Instead we got him getting his ass beat by a newbie with abandonment issues. Enough said though. I was entertained. It has to be on The Movie Wall because its part of Star Wars royalty.

- Spaceman JoeJune 4, 2025If the rest of the sequel trilogy was amazing, this one would stand out as the one weak-ish link. But unfortunately it stands out as the one okay-ish link. I think people lump this together with the next two as “the worst Star Wars” and although this doesn’t live up to other OG Star Wars movies, it still is pretty solid I guess and better than the other two after it. It would’ve could’ve should’ve been fine enough setup for a great trilogy. But now it’s viewed as the start of the bottom of the barrel. Best thing about it: Kylo Ren. Worst thing about it: it’s a freaking new hope copy and paste completely!!! That’s the one thing I can’t really stand about it. But overall…. It’s ok…
- PapaHamzehApril 2, 2025This movie really showed the world the direction Disney was going to be taking their franchises, and I dont think enough of us really paid attention to the signs. They had the world by the balls, and we couldn't help it. The slop they made for the pings was pretty damned good slop. Rehashed story? Boring. Familiar bloodlines for villains, playing on the literal ashes of those villains? Snooze. Science fiction that manages to be so glaringly stupid that even people who are here for space wizards are left thinking "really"? MERCHANDISING, MERCHANDISING, MERCHANDISING...but again, and even harder. I give it three stars because, at least up till this point, Rey and Finn and Kylo are enough of a tease that we don't really know better. They are decent characters in their own right, and really could have set the franchise up for success, had they been given the opportunities to do so with a good script and cohesive direction from Disney execs and not JJ Abrams and the resulting mess. Instead, Disney was beginning to realize what 'nostalgia' could do for the profits, and the doom was upon us.

Positives: - The movie is well made, well directed, well paced, well edited, and well shot - The movie visually looks gorgeous - The score is incredible - The performances are incredible - The new characters are great and the old characters are of course amazing as well - The action sequences are incredible and perfectly executed - The Plot is very good and simple - The movie does a good job at respecting the original trilogy and giving Star Wars fans nostalgia but also having new material Negatives: - The story is pretty similar to A New Hope and the character arks as well Overall Star Wars: The Force Awakens is an incredible Legacy Sequel that still holds up on rewatch and a perfect start to the sequel trilogy.
