Star Wars: The Phantom Menace unfortunately does not hold up as well on rewatch. Positives: - The film has an amazing score - Duel of the Fates - The film does a good job at setting up the prequel trilogy - The film introduces some really solid characters into the Star Wars world - The action sequences are a lot of fun Negatives: - The CGI and green screen does not hold up at all compared to the other Star Wars films - The film is not edited and paced very well - The performances are pretty meh - The movie does drag a decent amount for me Overall Star Wars: The Phantom Menace is a mediocre Star Wars film on rewatch.

I absolutely love this film. From being a child when this was released in 1999, after having watched the original trilogy during the 1997 re-master release, it was incredible! The special effects were groundbreaking for it's day. the character of JarJar appealed to me in a way no character did in the originals, which i believe was George Lucas' intention. I love the story and seeing the humble beginnings of Darth Vader, the characters are some of the greatest in the franchise, Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul. As an adult i appreciate and find interest in the more political themes of the republic and love how this is then further elaborated in subsequent installments and series such as the Clone Wars animated show. Now after nearly 30 years, i watch this film back with a fantastic sense of nostalgia and a love for my generation's Star Wars films.

Keira Knightley is pretty cool. Midichlorians ain't. Good practical effects, soundtrack and overall world building. Streets ahead of anything in the Disney era.

How is Jar Jar both cringey and hilarious at the same time? Lol.

Not a bad Star Wars movie at all it’s just that some of the other ones are much better. The character development in this movie though was phenomenal.

Rewatched this one for probably the hundredth time. Still love the chaos—podracing, lightsabers, all the tiny hints of the dark side creeping in—but man, some parts drag and the dialogue can be cringe. Jar Jar’s is unbearable, and a few characters just exist to explain stuff we already know. Still, seeing the beginnings of the Sith’s plan and young Anakin messing around? That’s pure gold. Fun in parts, messy, and frustrating all at once.

A Divisive Start with Lasting Impact "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" is a film that has long divided audiences, and while its flaws are undeniable, it remains an ambitious and often enjoyable entry in the saga. It may not reach the heights of the original trilogy, but it brings enough creativity and memorable moments to earn its place in the Star Wars universe. Visually, the movie was groundbreaking for its time. The scale of the worlds, the variety of locations, and the use of visual effects helped expand the galaxy in meaningful ways. From podracing on Tatooine to the lush environments of Naboo, the sense of world-building is strong and imaginative. The film's greatest strengths lie in its action and mythological expansion. The lightsaber duel featuring Darth Maul is still one of the most iconic in the franchise, elevated by excellent choreography and an unforgettable score. John Williams' music is, as always, exceptional and adds emotional weight and grandeur throughout. Where "The Phantom Menace" struggles is in its pacing, dialogue, and character focus. Some performances feel stiff, and certain characters are more distracting than engaging. The political exposition can feel heavy-handed, and the emotional core doesn't always land as intended. That said, the film has aged better in some respects, especially in how it sets the foundation for the larger story of Anakin Skywalker and the fall of the Republic. Ambitious, uneven, but far from unwatchable, "The Phantom Menace" is a flawed yet important chapter in the saga, one that offers enough spectacle and lore.

There were two good things about this movie; the pod race and Darth Maul (Iwish he was featured in this more!). Other than those, this is the worst Star Wars film in the franchise. Jar Jar Binks had a major impact on this movie and it wasn't a good one either!
