- carter28827d agoStar Wars: The Phantom Menace unfortunately does not hold up as well on rewatch. Positives: - The film has an amazing score - Duel of the Fates - The film does a good job at setting up the prequel trilogy - The film introduces some really solid characters into the Star Wars world - The action sequences are a lot of fun Negatives: - The CGI and green screen does not hold up at all compared to the other Star Wars films - The film is not edited and paced very well - The performances are pretty meh - The movie does drag a decent amount for me Overall Star Wars: The Phantom Menace is a mediocre Star Wars film on rewatch.
- KennyBarrozJune 13, 2025The lightsaber duel with Darth Maul is a clear highlight, and Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor bring strong performances as Jedi. However, the film stumbles with slow political plotlines and clunky dialogue. Jar Jar Binks’ comic relief doesn’t land for many, and young Anakin’s role feels underdeveloped. Despite flaws, it sets the stage for the saga’s deeper story and delivers memorable moments. Bold and beautiful, but uneven in execution.
- Bryn SmithMay 4, 2026I absolutely love this film. From being a child when this was released in 1999, after having watched the original trilogy during the 1997 re-master release, it was incredible! The special effects were groundbreaking for it's day. the character of JarJar appealed to me in a way no character did in the originals, which i believe was George Lucas' intention. I love the story and seeing the humble beginnings of Darth Vader, the characters are some of the greatest in the franchise, Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul. As an adult i appreciate and find interest in the more political themes of the republic and love how this is then further elaborated in subsequent installments and series such as the Clone Wars animated show. Now after nearly 30 years, i watch this film back with a fantastic sense of nostalgia and a love for my generation's Star Wars films.
