Very dull plot and action but I surprisingly liked the silly humour and didn’t get bored at any point thanks to the charming cast. Freddy was the most entertaining, everyone else got barely any character development. Overall a forgettable film released at the end of a dying DCEU.

I just watched Shazam! Fury of the Gods and I give it 3 out of 5 stars. This sequel has some fun moments, cool visuals, and a few laughs, but overall it just felt like a step down from the first movie. It tries to go bigger in every way—more action, more villains, more mythology—but in doing that, it kind of loses the charm that made the first one work. Zachary Levi is back as Shazam and he is still fun to watch. He plays the adult superhero version of Billy Batson, and he brings the same energy as before. He is goofy, unsure of himself, and trying to keep his superhero family together while dealing with the pressure of growing up. But this time around, it feels like he is playing the part a little more like a cartoon character, and some of the emotional stuff does not land as well. The rest of the Shazam family gets more screen time, which is both a good and bad thing. It is great seeing them work together and figure things out as a team, but it also makes the movie feel a little crowded. There are so many characters now, and not all of them get enough time to really stand out. The younger versions of the characters barely get any screen time at all, and I missed that balance between the kid and hero forms from the first movie. The villains this time are the Daughters of Atlas, played by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler. They are powerful, mysterious, and connected to the gods, which adds a fantasy vibe to the movie. Helen Mirren brings some weight to the role, but the villains never felt all that interesting to me. Their motivations are kind of vague, and their scenes sometimes take away from the main story instead of making it better. The action is bigger, but not always better. There are a lot of CGI-heavy fights and magical effects, but none of it really stands out. It is fun to watch in the moment, but it is also kind of forgettable. The dragon looks cool, and there are a few exciting moments, but nothing that blew me away. What I did still enjoy was the heart of the movie. Even though it gets lost sometimes, the theme of family and sticking together is still there. Freddy has a bigger role in this one, and his story is probably the strongest part of the whole movie. Jack Dylan Grazer gives a great performance, and he brings a lot of heart and humor to his scenes. The pacing is a little off, and the movie feels longer than it needs to be. Some jokes drag on, and some of the emotional beats feel rushed. There is also a ton of setup for future DC stuff, which feels a little forced, especially with where things stand in the bigger DC universe right now. I give Shazam! Fury of the Gods 3 out of 5 stars because it is entertaining but uneven. It has some solid moments, a few laughs, and good performances, but it just does not hit as hard as the first one did. Overall Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a decent sequel that tries to do too much and loses some of the fun along the way. I did not hate it, but I probably will not be rewatching it anytime soon.

Feels bigger and louder than it needs to be, with a few jokes landing and the cast showing some charm, but it all feels scattered. Nothing really grabs you, and it never quite comes together. The main problem is the weak story and even weaker villains—most of them are underused or just not the right choice for their roles. They never feel threatening or interesting, which makes the whole thing lose steam. It’s watchable, but a lot of potential gets wasted.

I find it insane, that the Shazam movies are the best ones in the DCEU... But here we are! Kids movies for the win

Pretty generic superhero movie but barely audible. For some reason beyond me, the audio mixing on any remotely intense scenes in the film has the music so loud it drowns out dialogue and basically everything else, in the cinema I watched this in, it was just a constant 105-110 decibel sound at it's lowest (according to my friend's apple watch) that was genuinely painful to listen to and left me with my ears in pain and ringing for hours afterwards, I thought this was down just to the cinema release and it'd be fixed for the home release, but nope, it's still far too loud.

Not as bad as what people say it was. It was ok. A few good laughs, strong action.

My quick rating - 6.2/10. Even though I'm more of a Marvel guy, it's time to check this one out. The flick is an entertaining and action-packed sequel, building on the success of the first film. The movie takes us on a wild ride as we follow the adventures of Billy Batson in being Shazam and trying to balance his superhero life with his normal teenage existence. And the casting was also one of its strong features. Zachary Levi is perfectly cast as the lovable, goofy superhero, and his chemistry with the rest of the cast rings true throughout the film. Strong performances from the supporting cast, including Lucy Liu and the phenomenal Helen Mirren, add depth and heart to the story. One of the things that really stood out about this movie was the outstanding visual effects and action sequences. The fight scenes were well-choreographed and exciting; using my favorite candy, Skittles, to tame a unicorn is a fun, somewhat creative touch that deserves a bonus point. The relationships between the various characters-Billy's foster family, his superhero colleagues, and the villainous gods-make for a reasonably well-developed movie. This Shazam sequel constitutes a fun, enjoyable movie that both fans of the first movie and franchise newbies alike will definitely enjoy. It's not a perfect movie by any means, but it is a worthy addition to the genre of superhero movies generally and a great way to spend two hours in front of the screen.

TL;DR: "Taste the rainbow, motherfuckers!"🌈 Whatever, this movie is kinda fun, and different, and I appreciate the jabs at Marvel 😂 The good moments, effects, jokes, and performances slightly edge the bad ones. I dunno, I think I like it more than I should but I need to rewatch it in a bit 😂 I will add any new and future insights after this in bold.

Fun family flick that builds on the family dynamic that worked well in the first one. I would much prefer the child versions (Asher Angel, et al) got the lions share of the screen time over their superhero alter-egos (Zach Levi, et al). Enjoyed moments Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and especially Rachel Ziegler as the daughters of Atlas, but never truly felt like their backstory and motivations were ever properly fleshed out. Personally, I found the third act cameo to be ridiculous though in story and in execution. The blaring theme of that character and Levi’s cringey reactions, bring an element that just isn’t needed—even more so when considering the muddled future of the DCEU or whatever we call this thing.
Largely a fun movie though. Liked more than I disliked.
