Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with their adult superhero alter egos. When a vengeful trio of ancient gods arrives on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Shazam and his allies get thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of the world.

Fun family flick that builds on the family dynamic that worked well in the first one. I would much prefer the child versions (Asher Angel, et al) got the lions share of the screen time over their superhero alter-egos (Zach Levi, et al). Enjoyed moments Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and especially Rachel Ziegler as the daughters of Atlas, but never truly felt like their backstory and motivations were ever properly fleshed out. Personally, I found the third act cameo to be ridiculous though in story and in execution. The blaring theme of that character and Levi’s cringey reactions, bring an element that just isn’t needed—even more so when considering the muddled future of the DCEU or whatever we call this thing.
Largely a fun movie though. Liked more than I disliked.
