I would pay anyone just to not watch this less of a scum movie. There’s so many things wrong about this and especially how they dumb down Leon so hard just for this movie. Just no.

It’s easy to hate on this movie for a variety of reasons. But in my opinion, it’s a fun reenactment of the familiar RE1/RE2 games. I just wish they went even harder on the source material.

This is a 5 star movie. This is a great example of what to do. Except Leon. They made him an inept fool in this.

Best described as hot garbage! Another bad entry to the franchise...pointless story, underdeveloped characters and felt like the cast was mailing it in. I mean, can you blame them?!?

Playing through many of the resident evil games elicits the best of b-movies. It seems Welcome to Raccoon City aims to be exactly that. Cheese and all. An interesting comixture of the first two games, it's hard to say this is exactly a faithful adaption, but it certainly gets a surprising amount right. The casting, for example, is honestly quite inspired even if a few don't exactly look identical to their virtual counterparts (Leon). The cast definitely does its best with its limp script. A few genuinely funny moments puncture this otherwise dour affair. Perhaps not as ornate, the police department, and the Spencer mansion are welcome set pieces that look great. Lots of nods to its source material without it feeling too pandering. In my opinion, if you're a fan of the franchise, there's a lot to appreciate here. If not, there's still a fair amount of fun to be had, even if it's a bit heavy-handed with its tropes.

An absolutely terrible her resident evil movie. I mean, who the hell is this Leon guy? They made him out to be an utter buffoon. And I feel like miss redfield is also unqualified. The effects are not impressive. Especially for this day and age, you have literally independent youtubers doing better jobs Resident Evil has fallen ever since Resident Evil 4. They have really turned away from the core principles and started manipulating it every which way I don't know who decided that we could start just tearing apart The core of this but I do not support it.

    Is good

It was good but they tried to make it too comedic but I liked the Easter eggs. It’s a mix of scary movie and resident evil.

Very boring movie that doesn't follow the plot of the original game at all

This movie is as if the director and writer heard someone talk about resident evil in the next room while they were drunk.

The movie deserves some credit for at least trying to pull from the first couple of Resident Evil games. The effort shows, but there's no real payoff, here. The movie is just booorrrrrrring. The casting is the main problem. Most performances are either wooden or over the top, with no middle ground. Leon is the worst offender, rewritten as a pusillanimous punchline. The actor does what he can, but the character is a wussy mess. For a zombie film, it is strangely dull. The one major horde attack is shot in darkness with strobing flashes, which may mimic gameplay but makes for muddy, unreadable action on screen. You wait for the film to kick in and it never really does. The writing is choppy and contrived. Problems that could be solved in half a minute of conversation drag on because nobody says the obvious thing. This repeats so often it starts to feel mechanical. And there's almost no exposition. Mystery is fine. Absence is not. A little clarity about what is actually happening would have helped. As it stands, the film drifts, stalls, and ends without much impact.

The best Resident Evil movie made. Admittedly this is a low bar to clear, and the movie does have some glaring issues (Leon Kennedy's casting is completely egregious.) The movie is competently made, and Donal Logue is always amazing. It is also fun to search for the easter eggs referring to game lore and situations.

Showed some promise in the beginning with the whole "The Shadow over Innsmouth" thing but as soon as the main cast got through their introductions...everything fell apart. Cringe dialogue mixed with a 'meh' cast isn't great, but the ambition to merge RE1&2 together wrecked any chance of this working. Very boring. Also not a fan of everyone calling Leon 'stupid'. Came off like the writers tryna reverse engineer a justification for Leon's bad decision making and poor reaction speed. The audacity to tease Ada Wong with an after-credits scene.

Solid film. The final third kinda felt rushed? Would likely less much less sense for anyone who hasn't played the first two games first.

My quick rating - 6.4/10. I know, not Xmas at all, but I have been waiting for this one. I am sure I'll push the review off until after anyway. And I did obviously. I really liked this movie. The first string of movies started off fine and turned into an action-packed mayhem vehicle to show off Milla Jovovich. Trust me, I am not complaining about any of that. This reincarnation changes gears and goes straight to the game's roots. The backstory of the Redfield siblings sets up a creepy story that easily could've been a fully developed flick on its own, but instead is used to bring us into Raccoon City. All the characters from the first game are introduced and used just enough to make any player of the game say, "Finally," yet draw you in enough that you don't need to be a gamer to follow along. The familiarity just makes it more fun. The teams are divided, with one being sent to the mansion to investigate. Scenes are literally plucked out of the first game almost verbatim. They are all stuck in the city where a mysterious virus has taken over the population and turned them into zombies. The first half or so plays out more like a traditional horror flick/game would, but it does switch gears to allow for more of the story and action to take over. There are your typical greedy corporation leaders, and the explanation of what truly is going on, along with the relationship to the siblings, is all explained decently enough. Especially if you take into account that this is all from a video game that came out in 1996. The cinematography keeps all the action looking very fluid, and the camerawork doesn't delve into the shaky handi-cam nonsense. Special effects were all done well, even when purposely looking hokey. All the little nods to the game make this an extremely enjoyable experience. I like how this has come about and can see the sequels on the way. Bring on the hounds (they even logically explained the initial sighting of one).
