As we reach Police Academy 6: City Under Siege, the franchise has pretty much exhausted every slapstick setup in its arsenal, so giving the gang an actual mystery to solve feels like the one ‘new’ trick left in the bag. It’s almost funny how refreshing even the slightest bit of real police work is in that universe. The film still leans on the same recycled gags, just wrapped in a bargain-bin detective plot with cartoonish villains. By this point, the series has settled into pure comfort food. You know exactly what’s coming, and the movie clearly knows you know.
