Magazine Dreams Ratings & Reviews
- Doc Holidae20 de abril de 2025I don't see how anyone could watch this and not give credit to Jonathan Majors's acting skills. Not only was this a good movie, but he gave an incredible performance.
- Abe Froman8 de febrero de 2026Man gets beaten nearly to death and still pulls up to a mankini competition. That’s champion behavior whether you like it or not.
- deadpoool9 de diciembre de 2025One of the most disturbing films i've seen in years. Major's performance is Award-worthy.
- The Leviathan18 de noviembre de 2025Definitely a drama. I personally sound it kinda boring
- Torrance Ingram21 de agosto de 2025Hated this overly goofy and weird movie. Majors portrayed dude well but the role wasn't for him.
- Austin Burke28 de abril de 2025While the controversy surrounding this film is one thing, the experience itself is another. Featuring a fantastic lead performance, this movie hits unexpected emotions and delivers a brutal tale of fear, anger, and obsession.
- rdb85030 de julio de 2025It's obvious Oscar bait, good acting by Jonathan Majors and he sacrificed a lot getting into shape for the role. Having said that the script is pretty silly, repetitive and stereotypical. There was so much more potential for this movie and avenues it could have explored instead of reducing the story down to the usual nonsense.
- thereelvoice23 de marzo de 2025Johnathan Majors delivers the performance of a lifetime in this gritty character study. A high intensity and stress inducing tale that follows a loner fighting to be seen in the world, Magazine Dreams is a revelation. From the brooding cinematography, to the balanced performances across the board, Magazine Dreams will keep you enthralled from beginning to end. Majors’s performance as Killian Maddox is nuanced, heartfelt and powerful and you will leave this film feeling as if you know this young man. After watching Magazine Dreams, you may find yourself fearing him, fearing for him and oddly enough, wishing him the best.
- Kevin Ward4 de julio de 2025I was completely transfixed by Jonathan Majors’ performance which is enough to give this film a recommendation. His portrayal of the singular Killian Maddox is a thing of beauty, but his Magazine Dreams quickly turn into real nightmares as he grapples with personal demons. Though Killian has a singular focus that he is pushing himself towards, the film‘s narrative by contrast feels very scattershot, touching on steroid use, toxic masculinity, celebrity, violence, mental health, gun violence, suicide….you name it, and it’s probably in here. That left me with a bit of a question mark in terms of how I feel about the film overall.
- Dr. Jay28 de junio de 2025Majors does an incredible job in this movie. He really embodied this character. Worth the watch!
- mzj.2 de junio de 2025This movie was terrible
- Kyle30 de abril de 2025Elijah Bynum’s Magazine Dreams is an unrelenting descent into obsession, loneliness, and the self-destructive pursuit of validation. At its center is Jonathan Majors, delivering one of the most staggering performances in recent memory, embodying a man whose body is sculpted with the same intensity that his mind unravels. The film pulls no punches in its portrayal of an amateur bodybuilder’s relentless drive, exposing the psychological and physical toll of his ambition. As the story unfolds, it becomes increasingly difficult to watch him push himself beyond all limits, trapped in a cycle of pain and unattainable perfection. The result is a film that feels like a slow-burning pressure cooker, steadily building toward an inevitable, violent breaking point. Majors’ performance is nothing short of commanding, transforming himself into a figure both terrifying and tragic. His portrayal of Killian Maddox is a study in extremes—driven yet hopelessly isolated, physically powerful yet emotionally fragile. His struggles with body dysmorphia, binge eating, and steroid-induced health issues paint a harrowing picture of a man losing control of his own identity. Maddox's inability to connect with others makes every interaction feel unnerving, from his obsessive fandom to his desperate attempts at romance. Majors brings an unhinged energy to the role, making every moment feel on the edge of collapse. Visually, Magazine Dreams is exquisitely shot, capturing the rawness of Maddox’s world while injecting moments of dreamlike beauty. The cinematography immerses viewers in his perspective, blurring the lines between reality and delusion in ways that are as mesmerizing as they are unsettling. The score further amplifies this effect, weaving an eerie, hypnotic atmosphere that mirrors the character’s unraveling psyche. There’s an overwhelming sense of isolation in the way the film is framed, making Maddox’s world feel suffocating even in the quietest moments. Every shot and sound choice reinforces the weight of his obsession, trapping the audience inside his fractured mind. What makes Magazine Dreams so powerful is how unrelenting it is in its portrayal of self-destruction. It strips away any romanticism surrounding the idea of dedication, revealing the dark consequences of unchecked ambition. The film doesn’t just explore the physical toll of Maddox’s steroid use and training—it delves deep into the mental collapse that comes with it. His pursuit of validation becomes a horror story of its own, showing how easily the desire to be seen can turn monstrous. It’s a film that refuses to offer easy answers or a comfortable resolution, making it all the more haunting. Like the body Maddox sculpts, Magazine Dreams is lean, raw, and unforgiving. Jonathan Majors delivers a performance that is as mesmerizing as it is painful to watch, carrying the film with a level of commitment rarely seen. It’s one of the best performances I’ve ever witnessed, a masterclass in immersion and intensity. Bynum crafts a story that builds and breaks like a pressure valve, forcing its audience to sit in discomfort as they witness a man consumed by his own image. It’s a film that lingers long after the credits roll, a gut-wrenching look at the cost of obsession.
