Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Ratings & Reviews
- carter28826d agoFantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is a mediocre movie on rewatch. Positives: - The movie visually looks really good and is well made and directed - The score is really solid - The performances are really good - The action that we do get is really solid - The 3d act is really ballsy and awesome Negatives: - There isn’t much character moments to work with - The movie feels very convoluted with all of the characters on separate missions so it’s really hard to balance out the time to each individual character - The dialogue is very cringy - There is a lot of cringy moments in the film, especially involving Newt and Tina’s romance - The film is so bloated with Harry Potter references and cameos - The plot itself isn’t very interesting - The movie itself is pretty boring and uninteresting - The movie also doesn’t do anything for over half the movie; you can literally just skip the first hour and a half of the movie Overall Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is a mediocre film in the Wizarding World.
- The Movie HaterJanuary 8, 2026I hate most movies, this one is no exception. In fact, I may hate it even more than most movies, unfortunately.
- M08YApril 18, 2026Grindelwald actually doesn't commit many crimes here. I think I can see what they were going for here, but man does the execution not hold up. If you are going to allegorize the rise of Facism, you REALLY need put the work in to show enough depth to keep it working. I'd have really loved to have seen the wizard descent into Facism done justice. Unfortunately the interesting bits of this film are cut up by the fairly boring sub plot of working out who Credence's family are. It's truly a terrible plot point. Compared to the previous film, the plot points here feel very isolated until forced together. I praised the previous film for not relying on the Harry Potter films/lore too much and taking a bold step in it's own direction. I cannot place the same praise here, the keys are a jangling here ladies and gentlemen. We get Hogwarts, The Ministry of Magic, Nicolas Flamel, Dumbledore, the Lestrange family, Magonical even the human form of Voldemorts snake? Like seriously why would you do that. Also Johnny Depp feels horrendously miscast as Grindelwald. I do hope nothing happens that forces them to re-cast (Spoiler Alert). To end on some positives, once again this film looks great. The 4K Bluray is well worth picking up. It does unfortunately fall victim to the same issues with the magical creatures not quite compositing correctly, but it's not the end of the world. The audio is fine.
- LuisaneraJune 7, 2025Great movie to watch with family
- ArnioxFebruary 20, 2026Sooo much worse than the first movie. So many moments I can't even name where I was just confused as hell by JUST the camera positioning let alone everything else. It felt like they cut out ALL visual cues and visual exposition so it felt like things happened, often with no rime or reason. The actors did the best they could with what they had and I enjoyed most of their performances. But the characters themselves felt one-dimensional, with many switching sides for no apparent reason, and with no explanation at all. The tone was all over the place going from light hearted to extremely dark, and back to light hearted over and over. The pacing felt like a car speeding up and breaking constantly. And the story itself honestly made very little sense with how many things were happening and being introduced all at once. An extreme let down from the first of the Fantastic beasts movies.
- Christopher HirschNovember 21, 2025Great movie, but a little hard to follow. In particular how they led Credence to the Lestrange family, but then took him out of it... It's too bad they didn't get to continue the story, I'd really like to know who Credence was really. Also I was hoping for a connection to Bellatrix Lestrange. And I have to say, the whole thing with Dumbledore being gay was JK Rowling's attempt to retcon her stories to be more woke. It's OK to have straight characters be straight. Not EVERY story has to include the LGBTQ angle.
- PaulOctober 31, 2025The pacing and storytelling is awful. It doesn't feel like a movie, it feels like a delivery method for the next CGI creature or effect to be introduced so that a crew somewhere can circle jerk to their own efforts.
- Lucas PerezAugust 22, 2025Probably the worst movie I have seen in a while. The script is horrendous, my girlfriend said "it felt like three movies in one" and I agree. A lot of it felt all over the place, and again, where are the wizard robes? The proper magic? Why are there so many goddamn beasts now in the world? The story is ALL OVER THE PLACE, and the edit is so confusing too.
- mickerdooAugust 13, 2025Felt a little like an in between movie. Had some cool scenes but a lot of dead space.
- IcarusNovember 13, 2024Similar to part 1, but a bit better as things get more serious and the villain is revealed
