Borderlands Ratings & Reviews
- James Magdaleno4d agoDogshit, I loved hating it.
- oscor1May 3, 2026Not what I expected. However, it was entertaining.
- ApocMoraApril 15, 2026Honestly, had they just had Lilith be her own new unique Siren instead of trying to retcon rob the spot of the original series character Lilith, the entire storyline would have been better for it. It both erased pre-existing character history, narrowed the scope of the character in a less than ideal way, and just pissed me off as a fan. Then they did that with multiple other characters, such as Krieg and Tina. Also...I am surprised that I think Kris Rock did so well as Rolan...I really expected him to not be a good fit. Not a perfect fit, but he helped play off the zaneyness of others well enough to actually act as a meshing effect. So, yeah, well done. Otherwise, just really hating how much of the game series lore they decide to just ignore or complete screw up or retcon for the movie, that did not require such. Next time, maybe have a few folks who actually played and liked the games on hand to tell you when you are messing up that badly...because this should have been an easy win.
- nandu2u2February 12, 2025A bit shit
- ThreeGsApril 11, 2026Considering the source material this probably could have been better. Kinda fun.
- ShaydeknightApril 2, 2026Borderlands works best when taken as a deliberately silly action film. On that level, it's serviceable. The CGI sits around a B+, colourful and energetic but often overbearing. It's not too well done, especially when it integrates people into the special effects. The script offers a lot of game catchphrases and bits of lore, which land occasionally but rarely build momentum. Now, the film does intermittently capture the anarchic tone of the games. The problem is translation. The series thrives on the immediacy and exaggeration of a first person shooter. That energy is difficult to convert into a conventional ensemble action narrative. The film substitutes noise and quips for interactivity, and the substitution only partly works. The casting is OK overall, but Cate Blanchett is an odd choice for Lilith. She's in phenomenal shape, and she's always enjoyable to watch, but this film needed someone else. I mean, the film itself indicates the character is about forty five and Blanchett was about fifty-five at release, and the difference is visible. More importantly, she's not especially convincing in heavy action. She works better in roles where presence does most of the work. Here, they aim for something intense and gritty, and it just doesn't suit her. Several slow motion shots that go for "cool" end up highlighting the problem. She looks slightly out of her depth in the choreography, while also seeming too good for the material. That makes the performance feel split. Either she was miscast, or she was poorly directed, but the result never quite clicks. As a Saturday afternoon diversion, it's fine. Viewers unfamiliar with the games will likely accept it at face value and enjoy the spectacle. Fans, however, may find that the specific kind of chaotic fun the games provide does not survive the shift away from the FPS format. The film isn't bad, it's simply less lively than the source it imitates.
- philoerMarch 16, 2026Cringe acting.
- KryuzMarch 13, 2026Not that bad but not really good.
- ScottDecember 14, 2024I don’t really know how this was supposed to work since the fun of the game is not the writing but the novelty of picking up a wacky gun to figure out what it will do. But whatever the way forward was Eli definitely didn’t find it.
- Sean SmithFebruary 26, 2025Poor claptrap the voice was a tragedy for those of us that were fond of the games.
- LBalianFebruary 16, 2026I found it very enjoyable to watch.
- Dellvon C. FordNovember 8, 2024The women carry this movie...they were awesome........I really appreciated the all or nothing approach to doing this film....
- MrTrivetFebruary 2, 2026Like a loot box with terrible rewards, this film exists to frustrate fans and confuse those unfamiliar with the game. What saddens me most is the abysmal casting.
- Kristine Sofie MooreDecember 31, 2025Loved the movie it's so funny
- SamDecember 23, 2025i do not think jamie lee curtis knows how to use a touchscreen in real life
