Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son Ratings & Reviews
- Manuel Frangis6d agoI just watched Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie is pure comedy fun. If you liked the first two Big Momma’s House movies, then this one just keeps that same energy going. It is over the top, ridiculous, full of wild disguises, and totally leans into its own goofy premise in the best way. Martin Lawrence is back as Malcolm Turner, and he is still just as funny in the Big Momma disguise. This time around, though, he is not doing it alone. His stepson Trent, played by Brandon T. Jackson, ends up joining in on the undercover mission and gets his own disguise as Charmaine. The father and son comedy duo makes for a fresh twist on the series and brings a lot of new laughs. The story follows Malcolm and Trent going undercover at an all girls performing arts school. There is a case involving some missing evidence, a criminal on the loose, and the only way to stay hidden is for both of them to go full Big Momma mode. That means wigs, dresses, fake identities, and a whole lot of awkward moments. The comedy is nonstop. From dance battles to fashion shows to trying to keep their true identities secret, there is always something chaotic happening. A lot of the jokes come from watching Malcolm and Trent struggle to fit in as “Big Momma” and “Charmaine.” The physical comedy is hilarious, and Martin Lawrence totally sells it like he always does. Brandon T. Jackson is a great addition to the movie. He brings a lot of energy, and his chemistry with Martin Lawrence is solid. The scenes where the two of them try to stay in character while dealing with the challenges of living in an all girls school are some of the funniest parts of the movie. You can tell they are having fun with it, and it makes the movie even more fun to watch. There is also a surprising amount of heart. Underneath all the disguises and silly situations, the movie is really about the relationship between Malcolm and Trent. Trent is growing up, trying to figure out his future, and Malcolm is trying to guide him without pushing too hard. That father and son bond gives the movie some nice emotional moments in between all the laughs. The setting is great. The performing arts school gives the movie lots of chances for musical numbers, talent shows, and over the top student drama. It is a fun backdrop that adds to the energy of the movie and makes the undercover plot feel even more chaotic. I give it 5 out of 5 stars not because it is a masterpiece or anything deep, but because it is exactly what it is trying to be. It is funny, ridiculous, and just plain entertaining. It does not pretend to be anything else, and that is why it works. Overall Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son is a fun, outrageous comedy that keeps the spirit of the series alive with a new twist. It is full of funny moments, silly disguises, and some great father son bonding. I had a blast watching it and I will definitely be rewatching it again when I need a good laugh.
