⭐⭐½ — American Pie Presents: Band Camp — A Spin-Off in Search of an Identity Band Camp is where the American Pie franchise officially splits off from the core group and starts its straight-to-video era. And you can feel that shift almost immediately. The biggest standout here — and honestly the clearest highlight of the entire film — is Arielle Kebbel, who made enough of an impression that she sent me off to watch plenty of her later work. Without her, this movie would struggle even more to justify its existence. Conceptually, this is the first time the series really leans into the mythical “band camp” that had been jokingly referenced in earlier films. Unfortunately, while the idea of band camp had probably fuelled a lot of adolescent imagination, the actual execution doesn’t live up to the hype. The setting never quite becomes the comedic playground it promises to be. We get a new Stifler — living very much in the shadow of his infamous older brother — along with the familiar safety net of Jim’s dad, Mr. Levenstein. But without the original ensemble to anchor things, the film feels oddly interchangeable. Strip away the American Pie branding and this could just as easily be a low-tier National Lampoon Presents movie — even the naming convention feels like it’s borrowing from that exact mould. There are laughs here and there, and it’s not unwatchable, but it doesn’t carve out its own identity. More than anything, Band Camp feels like a proof-of-concept for the spin-off era rather than a fully confident entry in the franchise. 🍻 Pairing: A warm can of cheap lager — drinkable, familiar, but missing the spark that made the original memorable.

It's such a horrible movie. Honestly, the franchise should have ended after the wedding... Maybe the reunion, but all these spinoffs were just bad. I felt sorry Eugene Levy was in them. Poor guy
