- 匚卂尺ㄥ2d agoSo while I'm not a fan of Michael bay, but some of his ventures like The Rock (which I absolutely love), Armageddon, pearl harbor, 13 hours are fantastic examples of his inimitable style and sometimes innovative and crazy camerawork which lends to an enjoyable viewing experience (whether the story is felt through and through is a different thing to be discussed altogether), and Ambulance is no different in terms of it's treatment of a simple plot with several beats to shed some light on the characters. With Ambulance the canvas is pretty much a variety of well known areas in NY and the landscape is simple (roads, highways, parking lots etc) yet utilized quite well thanks to some insane high octane shots, due to the FPV drone that they used. The two brothers have great chemistry which becomes obvious with each passing minute of the car chase sequence, the motivation might feel slim but with a Bay movie that's a given coz the proof is in his action! So is the case with Ambulance but what makes it fresh is the several hurdles that these two characters face during the chase which keep the audience on their toes and the ending wasn't what I had expected but one I quite liked coz it felt more real. Definitely do watch this for the action and camerawork but stay for the great chemistry between the main acts and the crazy acting by Jake Gyllenhaal, he's been my fav for years but even though this project was so not his type of work, yet he truly made it his own.
- Kevin WardJuly 14, 2025It was my oldest sons birthday and he wanted to go to a movie. But we’d seen everything that was playing nearby already 😁 with the exception of this rated R Michael Bay thrill ride. And man we had a really good time. This film is weirdly progressive for a Bay film—a fairly diverse cast and I didn’t notice any blatant objectification of his gorgeous female lead. Well done. What also did was use drone shots for everything. Tracking shots, dollies, pans?? Forget it. We got a drone to capture that movement. It’s pretty wild. Some of the shots captured are definitely cool, but it definitely comes off with the feeling like Bay was just really wanting to play with his new toy. As for the film, Gyllenhaal was perfectly unhinged. Yahya was great serving as the films moral center of sorts. The opening sequences with him and his wife setup his character really well. And Eiza Gonzalez was also very well cast and did great with this off the wall heist movie. The plot is totally ridiculous and I don’t think it made any sense whatsoever, but our whole family had a blast at the theaters and even more fun pointing out the ridiculousness on the car ride home.
- John HomenMarch 16, 2025SKIP it and watch heat instead Too long, but at least 30 minutes, and the amount of fast cuts makes you think they went to tiktock for how to make a movie. The movie looked like it was going to be good. Shooting was on point, the audio was solid, acting for the most part was above expectations. The issues with the writers and editor. No spoilers here, but they wrote this like there was no bad idea from a heist film so lets use them all. In everyway heat (1995) did a better job with the smart tough bank heist crew staying ahead of the man until they dont. If they do a trimmed down directors cut with an alt ending them it might be worth the time, but its a 2 hour 16 minute long DONT.
