Stunningly beautiful, a breakneck pace, yet deeply relevant, intellectual, compassionate and moving. Every star in the sky.

If not for the viral, misleading gif circulating online - the one where people are being mass-crushed by a giant rotating machine - I probably would’ve never watched this title. And yet I did, and… it left me rather unmoved. Visually, it can be impressive at times - some shots are truly well-crafted and grand in scale - but soon after comes a wave of special effects reminiscent of TV fantasy shows from two decades ago. The CGI is highly uneven: at times spectacular, at others painfully artificial. The story’s message is warm and touching, but it requires a good deal of tolerance for the creators’ imagination, which occasionally stretches the suspension of disbelief to its limits. The whole thing is deeply immersed in Korea's spirituality and mythology, which gives it charm, though at times it can be difficult to fully grasp for the outsider. Adding to that are the typical mannerisms of Korean cinema - expressive and exaggerated - which can pull the viewer out of the moment. In the end, the film leaves a mixed impression: the promise of depth dissolves in an excess of effects and pathos.

Loved the visuals and costumes. Overall story was good, but the overall run time could have been shortened.
