- (Laura, VP of Operations) I love a crime drama – and I especially love a crime drama that’s filmed somewhere moody. I want peak drama, and I want it with rolling hills and sharp cliffs and a fair amount of drizzle. Luckily there are a fair amount of series that can give me that vibe, and one of my favorites is Shetland. If you’ve been looking for a new show, let me make a case for Shetland! There are ten seasons for you to put in your queue, so many hours to enjoy – none of this limited series nonsense where you only get 8 episodes. With Shetland, you can really jump in and get cozy with the DIs, DSs, and DCs. DI Jimmy Perez leads the team Season 1 - 7, and then DI Ruth Calder takes over in Season 8. Along with Tosh (we love you Tosh!) and Sandy, the crimes get solved over the course of a season – and they’re twisty without being completely unbelievable, and they’re dark without being so bleak you have to recover watch something after. Now let’s talk location. Prior to watching Shetland, I was totally unfamiliar with the Shetland Islands - but dang, they’re beautiful! The beaches and cliffs are breathtaking, the towns are super charming, and every time I watch an episode, I torture myself with googling just how long it would take me to get there from Texas. Not in the cards at the moment – so I’ll just keep watching Shetland! And you should too!
