- The only problem with Mike Flanagan‘s new horror series based on the Stephen King novel, previously adapted by cinematic legend Brian De Palma, Carrie… Is nothing. It’s a fucking masterpiece and just when you think it’s over with the real fucking begins Mike Flanagan like Ty West has a incredible sense of the horror genre… But how to execute it and flush it out into a full-blown series. It shouldn’t be a shock, but what he achieves here is radically more ambitious than his last Netflix outing the fall of the House of Usher, this is closer to the haunting of Hill House masterpiece, and JI say closer to his ultimate masterpiece… Midnight mass, a little tad bit of information here, for the Battlestar Galactica fans out there like myself… So say we all… Mike manages to pull in the alumni again for this series but when you take the subject matter of Carrie and Retail, the story in 2026, considering it’s been 50 years since we’ve seen the original film adaptation by Brian De Palma… That’s three generations of worlds to melt, contort, and make this work. The casting is excellent. The performances are excellent the pacing the music, the cinematography, as always as along with the editing and the direction are just top notch… With Mike Flanagan stepping into direct four episodes by my account. I started the series this afternoon and I just finished a 10 minutes ago. Yeah, that’s right I’m a freak like that And it’s fucking extraordinary, so how do I say anything about it without… Without spoiling… He makes it work, it’s eight episodes, it doesn’t take Carrie until the third act before she starts to master her abilities Stephen King is an executive producer here, I would imagine this has this full blessing… This is peak, horror, visual storytelling done by a master. Highly recommend. Now scratch that reverse it I highly fucking recommend this.
- Story: 8 Innocent girl gets corrupted by bullies and abusive mother Story is pretty good, I haven't actually read the book or even seen the original movie, so I am going into this series blind and didn't have any expectations or grudges about what has or hasn't been changed from the source material, but I can understand the frustration with things being changed. Visuals: 8 Nice shots, particularly the ending episode Nothing ground breaking but up there with other media in the same bracket, the ending episodes with all the blood, fire and gore were highlight in my opinion. Sound: 6 Mixed well Had no issues listening on Samsung Q990F sound system, no low or high spots where music overshadows dialogue, etc. Character: 8 Gives backstory to Carrie and others, helping you understand motives As said above, I haven't read the book or seen the original movie but after reading some reviews, this TV show fleshed out some of the characters that don't get any screen time or explanations in the book, which is always a plus in my opinion, and why I prefer TV shows over movies sometimes as you can expand on the characters, story, and environment that make them who they are and do what they do. Enjoyment: 7 Starts slow, ramps up towards the end and ends making you want more I wasn't that invested in the 1st few episodes, but as it went on I wanted more and ended up binge watching the whole show in one day, and the ending leaves the story open for more seasons and leaves you with several questions about what is happening next, who are these people? This didn't happen in the book or original from what I've read, but is kind of needed for TV format to make additional seasons and I think it is well done in that respect.
- Here we go.... I am a die hard Carrie original fan from the 70s with sissy. Why the fuck am I seeing 2 girls kissing within the first 10 mins of watching this ? This is DEI at its finest. It is not based on the original story and even if it was has been skewed to the original story. Don't bother go watch the original movie instead.
- Carrie White was directly inspired by two real girls. Stephen King knew during his youth!! 👑 The supernatural telekinesis, the destruction of the town, and the prom massacre are products of Kings imagination...✨ However, the emotional core, the brutal bullying, and the extreme religious household were taken from real life 🧬 And Stephen King's memoir on writing, King explain that Carrie White was an amalgamation Of two girls He crossed paths with while growing up in Maine. 👑 The first girl ("Tina") A classmate king went to school with, who was an outcast and relentlessly bullied!! 😢 King, noted that the torment stemmed largely from extreme poverty!! 💰 The poor girl was forced to wear the exact same unwashed out of style outfit to school everyday!! 😢 Making her an easy target for Peers who pinned " kick me" signs to her back! 😢 Tragically as detailed by King, she later died by suicide as a teenager 😢😢 The second girl ("Sandra") A deeply sheltered, timid girl from King's neighborhood, whose home life deeply influenced the creation of Carrie's mother! 😱 Margaret White. When King was hired to help move furniture into their family's home, 🏡 he was startled 😱to see an enormous menacing crucifix mounted directly over the living room sofa!! 💺 The family's oppressive, fundamentalist religious rules isolated the girl from living a normal teenage social life 🧬 She also suffered a tragic untimely death following a epileptic seizure 😱 😢 King famously noted that both girls died young!!! 😢😢 And he wondered what might have happened if someone like them had secretly possessed the ultimate defense mechanism against their tormentors!!! Interesting info huh guys and gals? I was not aware of the truth of this until just recently. So if anyone has any input on the information that I have just shared here, let's get this party started!! Let's start the discussion!! Any comments?
